do they use frs or dfsr for sysvol replication?
o
Hey Carl! Was just about to tag you, thanks for your reply. Via https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/vss/backing-up-and-restoring-an-frs-replicated-sysvol-folder?redirectedfrom=MSDN#determin[…]sr-or-frs, I confirmed via the reg key that DFRS is in place
w
If they are using FRS, migrate them to DFSR and it bypasses the FRS issues. "Optionally, you can also verify that FRS replication is working. I wrote a piece on using FRSDiag for this years ago. I don't think it's important to do so, though. Your existing FRS not working isn't going to matter much for this migration as DFSR is going to override it and use the PDC Emulator as the source no matter what stat FRS is in. Fixing FRS issues in order to then throw it away isn't a good use of time."

Will review both, thank you!
I think this is the case where the client (or an outside service provider) did a FRS to DFRS migration, but there were issues, and none were corrected. Don't the NTFSR folders in my screenshot normally indicate a problem during migration? Myself, I've never done a FRS to DFSR migration
w
I have done hundreds of FRS to DFSR SYSVOL migrations and have had zero issues. SInce I've never had an issue, I have never had to troubleshoot. If you do dfsrmig /getmigrationstate from their PDCe DC, what are the results? I will be glad to help you if you want to move to DMs so no customer data is public.
o
Sure! Switching to DM

Yea Webster Webster is your man for sure.
