how are people getting rid of the system apps in win11/2025? Things like Terminal/Settings/Windows Security from the start menu? Been racking my skull trying to find those out
n
We don't restrict the apps themselves, but we do limit visibility to the pages via the Settings Page Visibility GPO setting.
j
Do a custom start menu xml file, and gpo to customize settings to just the desired fields.
n
Doesn't that only apply to the right-hand side (pinned) of the Start menu?

hat has been my experience thus far. its also done with json now, not xml. these system apps just linger. I did what you suggested to block the settings app, the windows security app still opens as well as the terminal app. I have to figure out how to eliminate those. why does ms have to change the rules all the time 😉
n
Because Microsoft is enterprise hostile...

welp, still not able to lockdown Terminal or Windows Security. tried using an applocker config in wem but doesnt seem like that is working entirely. terminal lets you open powershell still but opening powershell itself is blocked. very goofy 😉

We created an external task with WEM (Script file), and added a script with this content:
get-appxpackage *terminal* | remove-appxpackage
Run hidden Trigger: User logon These f**ing apps always come back, some kind of self healing, so we decided to remove them for every user at logon, this really works. We do the same with the damn Feedback hub. I wrote a blog post about start menu customization a long time ago, this was published on mycugc. I managed to get rid of Windows security if I remember correctly. The site isn’t available anymore, but I found a PDF.
