I found three new 2.4ghz devices on my home network, but I have no idea what they are or where they are... lol
s
If they aren't IoT devices (humidifiers, air filters, watches, etc), I'd say it's probably safe to say your network got hacked. However, most mobile devices will share Wireless network passwords with smart watches, Meta Raybans, etc...
n
They're definitely my devices. Air purifier, three Govee LED kits, two Avatar Controls Christmas lights...
Found them by comparing the MACs
s
Ahhh 🙂
n
Kinda dumb how some of the apps won't show the IP that the devices pulled, but will show the MAC. At any rate, I'm up to 52 connected devices across wired/wireless. Need to see if I can hit triple digits.
s
Keep us posted! haha 🙂
n
I will say, it's interesting how many devices have wifi now. I went the Samsung SmartThings route when building my home automation, so I have another 20+ devices on a Z-Wave+ network.
s
Guess I have some catching up to do!
n
44?
g
pathetic
😄 2
s
it's the quality not the quantity? 😉
n
You may have me there - I have a lot of smart plugs on my network, haha
j
90% on the same /24 😞, I setup an IoT network years ago, but only moved a handful of known sketchy devices over there. Such a pain to reset each IoT device and set them up "as new" just to repoint them to a new WiFi. Especially with some being cameras up and out of reach w/o a ladder.
n
brb, need to buy 31 IoT devices to regain the lead...
😂 2
j
Unifi conversation adjacent, I did get this guy this week. Eager to pull out my old USW-16-150
n
Yeah, I don't need anything like that. I've got two managed TP-Link ethernet switches, and that's pretty much all I need in that space.
j
@Brandon Brewer might be up there with his HA setup too
n
I also don't have a home lab, and I'm assuming you do?
j
nope
n
Wow, what on earth do you have online then?
j
the killer is when I wandered off from Z-wave/Zigbee and started getting Govee/Eufy/Kasa stuff on WiFi....
n
Ahhh, that explains it, haha. I've thought about going that route, but I have so many sensors on zw+ that it doesn't make sense. Plus, those batteries last me years. They'd drain on wifi equivalents.
I bought Govee Christmas lights, and an LED strip for my daughter's room. Those RBIC lights are insane.
Had it set to music and was blasting Slayer and her room looked like there was a rave going on

j
i started beta testing for Eufy a few years ago...so I have a box full of free stuff that started me down that road
b
HA setup?
j
Home Assistant
n
I was going to look at their eufyCam S3 Pro, but not at the price point they want.
I have a Home Assistant setup. Fucking hate it. But it's a necessary evil for me for my 3D printer.
b
Must be confusing me with someone else. No HA setup for me.
j
ooops
wrong at:brandon - @Brandon Mitchell
b
That would make more sense, all good.

brandon mitchell is a good guy

just got 3 Eufy cameras and homebase. Had a bunch of Arlos before. So far i'm liking Eufy, minus their AI Detection mechanism. However, most most of the cameras i've used don't have the greatest detections or maybe false detections i should say.
s
I have several eufy, (spot light cameras, solar cams, ptz cameras, doorbell) for the most part work well. Im having an issue with my spotlights now
s
have the spotlight as well, the non solar panel one, E340, and it's been working well for me. This whole setup is only a couple months old.
s
ive got 3 outdoor cam pros, love those things. Hooked up to a solar panel and a 12v battery about 400 feet from the house
ive all but given up on my reolink cameras except if theyre poe
j
FWIW, Eufy has pretty easy to get into beta program, if you're willing to put in a little feedback time, you get free gear periodically. The catch is a lot of the time production versions have fixes in them that you'll never get HW wise. As such I have a ton of cameras....but my favorite is the SoloCam S340
s
yeah i'd like to get one of those and see how it does with the Wisconsin sun.
n
Wisconsin sun? That's a first for me, lol
@Jon Bucud: You've got my attention on the S340. How effective is that solar panel? Where I'd use it faces North, so it wouldn't get the bulk of the sun.
First thing I notice is that the camera just snaps into the mount. I assume there's a secure way to mount this? Somebody can literally just walk up and grab the camera, lol
s
have a link to the beta program? ill apply
n
Somebody created a security clip 3D printer file for the S340 mount, so I guess that's one option.
j
I'll dig up the invite when I get home tonight Stephen. re: Theft with the S340 Nick, yeah by default it's just a press fitting onto the screwed on mount. So in terms of anti-theft...there isn't much there. There isn't even the "alarm" like the old Eufy Cams had when they are tampered with. re: Solar, I get around ~300-450mah of charge a day with a panel that faces West (only gets sun in the last ~1/3rd of the day). It's enough to keep me >90% with recording set to "Optimal Surveillance", the least battery friendly setting. FWIW, the panel doesn't have to mounted directly on top, there's an USB-C cable + an extension in the box (I don't remember the length).
n
Need to debate whether or not $300 is worth it for the camera and the base.
This is the kit I was originally looking at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DDPW1YK2
s
I opted for the homebase since I wanted 24/7 recording and didn't want to pay for the monthly services. Going to take a handful of years to recoup the cost, so they better last a while
n
I don't mind the Homebase, and wouldn't get one without it
I've spent so much money in the last month. I think my wife would kill me.
Newegg actually has the S380 for $99 right now
j
Know that if have great wifi coverage right now with your own wifi setup, you're potentially taking a step back with HB3 connected cameras. eg. You have a nice Unifi setup, with multiple APs deployed to cover your entire area....but if you do HB3 connect the cameras connect directly to the HB3 and now you're back to a single WiFi AP
That being said, the AI/Face detection/camera to camera video stitching...all requires the HB3
n
The HB3 would actually be right next to my router, and within 20' of where I'd install the camera

This is one of those things that I don't really need, but I love my gadgets

j
@Stephen I asked, and the Eufy Power Users discord is no longer open invite, they said to refer to the In App surveys that pop-up time to time. Have anyone interested fill out those surveys for invites.
s
all good. You gave me motivation yesterday to get my extension pole and get my reolink wifi cameras working.. the antenna fell, every few months so i have to get a 12 foot extension pole and push them back up.
n
See, if you had a 3D printer, you could have printed out 12 pole sections to make that pole... 😄
🧠 1
Probably could have done it on as little as two plates, too
j
I tried to find a way to "gift" the wife a 3D Printer this year....but decided I like sleeping in our bed vs the couch 🤣
