Hello, we have a strange problem. One customer has this option enabled : Enable search index roaming for Outlook We found that VHDX files are very large, especially the SearchIndex file wich is growing fast to 20-30 Go. Is there a solution to reset theses files ? We do not want to reconfigure all user Outlook. Thanks.
s
guessing it's just the OST that's large? or is the index edb file the large one?
l
The largest file is the SearchIndex Vhdx
s
sorry, guess i'm confused. Is that the ODFC VHDX? If you mount the VHDX what files are taking up the space?

When enabling search index roaming in Citrix UPM, it generates 2 vhdx for the users : One OST and One SearchIndex. I speak from the searchindex vhdx. I don’t know I can open it. I think user must not be connected to open it. I will look asap.

Something must be off, our searchindex vhdx files are around 200 MB per user. Regarding your question, we just did a massdeletion of the vhdx file due to users not being able to mount them after we had a poweroutage that caused some kind of corruption in a few hundred searchindex vhdx files. The files got autorecreated when the users logged on again

ah, sorry, for some reason thought u were using fslogix. Yeah, just mount the VHDX and assign a drive letter to it, like a normal drive. Then use explorer to browse it and take a look at the files to see what's going on. You are correct that it can't be in use when trying to mount it, and then when you are done using explorer, you need to unmount it, via disk management
t
you can just copy the file to another location and open it that way, then the user can have it open.

Thanks everybody, I will try this next week.

When the vhdx is mounted, you can also open it if you go to c:\users\%username%\appdata\microsoft\outlook on the vdi, you don’t have to wait for the user to logoff and the VHDX to unmount for you to access it. If you get an error saying you cannot because you do not have access, you can still do so by using elevated explorer (starting explorer as admin isn’t enough because you most likely already have admin privileges). If you’re interested i have a script for this, you can DM me.

Thank you for the information
