All of those are good options. I’d add automating as well. All depends on your workflow and which tools you want to use.
Replication as well between common platforms as well is an option used with the options you listed above.

On-prem is Nutanix. Currently we are looking like having 2 or 3 different images if apps installed locally. Having duplicate images is cumbersome but i am not aware of any replication methods to smooth this process. Any recommendations?
j
Will AWS be Nutanix also?
c
Has not been discussed.
so no, as of now.
j
Ok with Nutanix on prem and Nutanix Cloud Clusters on AWS you could just replicate directly between the clusters.
Without it you are looking at automation, IPS, or our Move tool.

Thats interesting, i am not too familiar with the Nutanix on AWS but that definitely sounds like there may be a use case. I will look into the move tool as well. I think IPS is an add-on right. There is other work ongoing with migrating services to AWS beyond the CTX resource location, big deal to migrate from native AWS account/instances to ntx on AWS?
j
Just depends on what’s being migrated, size, etc but Nutanix Move is very helpful.

Nothing better than not having to refactor your images from one place to another, building in debt and whatsuch each time you convert from A to B. Tis part of what makes Nutanix on AWS and Azure awesome. Same platform, different place, point and go. (_shameless_plug_over)_ I was always a big fan of packer builds and building natively on each platform (Azure, VMware, AWS, etc). I think if i was in that position again and knowing what I know now, Ansible would play a much bigger part in image automation (it's what we use internally once the machine is built). Move is pretty awesome. You can go in, out, up, down, left, right - very handy https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Nutanix-Move-v5_1:Nutanix-Move-v5_1

@Ben Tusa good convo above for more education just in case.

If you aren’t already doing automated builds, having nutanix everywhere does make moving the images around very easy.
in some cases it’s also cheaper to run stuff on nutanix than just in azure or aws
