I believe MS had something, Or I thought I seen that if using another 3rd party profile solution with Office container
n
so does this basically mean you can't roam the users one drive data?
j
You can't roam the registry key, the data itself is not into the registry, it is synched with OneDrive (C:\Users\username\OneDrive - SharePoint Tenant Name)
I added a logoff script to delete the registry key since you can't exclude reg keys with FSLogix
r
Cool, I was going to ask that. But you answered it.
n
thanks, but is deleting that reg key really going to make that much of a difference with space?
j
they're just settings, nothing to do with the size of the OneDrive container

Two things I also follow. If MS or Citrix List a best practice depending on how you look at it. Then you deploy something that does not follow. Also with the thought of some environments can't also adhere to best practices. Anyways if the client or person goes behind you and doublechecks and finds that you did the opposite, would they raise heck about it if they had issues and blame it on that, which could come back to you?

But I read that others on here(Slack) say they roam it and have been with no issues.
j
in any case, trust but verify.
n
so what if i disable this setting..does that means all the one drive data will ne to be re-downloaded when user logs into another machine or just data the user clicks on in one drive?
j
well first of all you should only be using the profile container, the office 365 container is consider legacy at this point.

@newbie1998 to Jonathans point. "The ODFC container is primarily used in VDI solutions where another roaming profile product is used" https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/overview-faq#do-i-need-to-use-the-odfc-container-when-using-microsoft-365-applications
Keep things simple and use the Profile container IMHO. I used to separate them, looking back now I have no idea why? I used FSLogix Profile side and to me it added more complexity, which was not needed. I am sure others out there have their own opinions and use cases.

I think what i am really asking is should the one drive data be saved in a profile container or not? should it be excluded since its a lot of data?
r
I assume your going to setup files on demand and storage sense?
Unfortunately I have not set it up. Every time I go to deploy it a client says no. My luck with there security teams I guess
n
hey Ray, sorry for the late response. I am not setting up storage sense or one drive. i am just setting up the FSlogix piece
i really think the profile and office containers should be kept separate. what if you have to delete the profile container and it has outlook data then the user will need to be re-cached. having an office container would prevent an issue like that from happening. Where is everyone getting idea that office containers are legacy...i looked that up a few weeks ago and couldn't find anything on it.
