I've had layers from 500MB to 10GB in size, depending on what went into them. Each app is different, so there's no way to really tell until you build one and then look at your ELM's VHD storage location.
And keep in mind that every version of an app layer is its own separate VHD file, so if you have 4 versions of App1, there will be 4 separate VHD files for it.
You should definitely periodically go through your apps and delete old versions unless necessary (never the base version, though).

I been saying for 2 years I need to go learn this product. But I never do it. Just have no time 😞

Is this someone trying to forecast how much storage they will need to start with? There are other storage requirements as well. The minimum the appliance will use is 30 GB for Boot and 300 GB for the layer repository. As Nick said the layer repository will have the layer size times the number of versions and I would; assume you would have an average of 3 version per layer. Then if you are using elastic layering you will also have three version of that same layer on the EL storage. If you are using a caching connector you will then probably have an extra 200-250 GB per connector. So a good place to start when thinking about this is maybe 2 TB which will then grow over time as you add new layers.

Yeah, we had a 1TB share at my last place, and I was getting close to that limit with an image that had only half a dozen app layers.
When I left, my OS layer had to have been on version 50 or higher. I removed many of the previous versions, but always left 5-10 versions to roll back to for various reasons.
Various reasons being Microsoft bullshit

Thank yoy @Ray Davis @Nick Panaccio @Rob Zylowski for your inputs
@Nick Panaccio @Rob Zylowski - In case of App Layering, it is like thick disk .. is that right.. For one application entire 10 GB of application get used.. Is my understanding is right

What hypervisor are you using
MOst hypervisors are now thin but some are not
h
@Rob Zylowski we are using Vsphere
r
Then the layers are thin
h
Sure, Thank you
@Rob Zylowski Sorry one more question, if we want to upgrade the OS Layer from version Server 2019 to 2022, do we need to reinstall the all the app layering application or can achieved by creating new version in app layering
r
No the drivers are the same
h
Ok Rob. Thank you again
j
@Rob Zylowski The layers are thin, you just need room for growth. I can look at some of our layer sizing for you. We use a server 2016 and server 2019 image, with several static layers and a handful of elastic layers, we serve up server desktops from most of it, but also xenapp from same images
@Rob Zylowski Sorry misread, thought you were asking disregard
