I’ve seen this ctxkb numerous times in the last days and I’m quite confused. This policy would have to be enabled on purpose to trigger this specific error, hasn’t it? I wonder how this could affect many different environments?

so this article says onedrive is not supported with Roaming, Mandatory, and Temporary profiles.   My client is using Ivanti with a mandatory profile as a template.  does that mean their environment is not supported?

Afaik if you want to use OneDrive on RDSH you must use FSLogix or the very latest Citrix UPM in container mode.

As far as I know, UPM is not supported as a Profile Container for Onedrive. It depends if Microsoft supports it. Citrix supports it for sure.

The docs should be updated. If Citrix has a solution that supports it now, MS docs should be updated to list it. That’s my opinion obviously. But I’m sure somewhere during the development of onedrive support with the container Citrix has, they verified with MS on the path for this.

There was an interesting discussion over at <#CLDGD0KNV|> where somebody told a story how nice and fast the UPM support was, I think it was regards a time zone redirection bug with a privat dll provided. And how much faster and more reliable it was compared to MS support. Too bad the discussion is not available anymore.

So if you want to compare the VHDx part, then I can say that FSLogix team has more focus and new features or tools will be made available as you've seen over the last year. From ivanti side, I haven't seen that much movement BUT I must say that the team added a nice option to create custom containers. So you can e.g. easily create a Firefox container or Lotus Notes container for specific user-groups.

If you want to compare FSLogix with the UWM Suite, then I'd say that's trying to compare a remote control with a laptop, as you can see above they are completely different outside the VHDx capabilities. If you have a customer who is really using the UWM suite, and who is looking to move to FSLogix, then go sit with the team who currently manages UWM. Ask them what features they are using, put that in an excel sheet and most likely you'll need to come up with a lot of extra new management tools to perform the same management tasks. You will need to onboard the team in these applications, you'll need to migrate from UWM to these other tools.

FSLogix has application masking and java version control as well. i know you can do application masking with Ivanti using their application control suite

so this is not "my product" but for what I remember (can't access documents anymore now) you'll have them as system, so EMCoreSomething.exe EMSystem.exe.  The EMUser has one instance per interactive user session

No answer for you, but if you give this a try you'll not regret it: If you want to cut on costs, make your work way easier AND be prepared for the future (Cloud + MSIX support PLUS auto conversion appv to MSIX) I'd say; pick 2 hrs and give <@U010K917Z7T> his Appventix a try. It's easy to install/upgrade, only needs 2 shares or blop storage and it has many more benefits (PVS integration, AVD, etc etc).

have you checked the scheduled tasks to make sure that the its not being applied by a script. A couple of jobs ago we used that method to set the publishing server. I'm not sure why upgrading a vda would stop that from running but perhaps its an area you've not checked yet for the data?

From memory though I think the upgrade of the app-v component isn't far off an uninstall/reinstall and the citrix component is probably cleared the data for use with the studio features.

It looks to be related to Outlook 365 client calling Webview2.   I know Outlook now relies on it to call certain functions (i.e Room finder for meetings),  UIjust need to workout how and what in Outlook is starting the child process' and why they are left consuming CPU.

Noticed they STILL consume CPU even the the customers session is in a disconnected state.

I don't see a general issue with Edge WebView2 once in the UviProcessExcludes, but it depends on what it's running. You probably need to use Process Explorer to help isolate this further.

We have something similar in our corp - and we need a decoder ring for it.

true, if you can keep it as simple as possible. But in an highly automated environment with thousands of RDSHs/VDIs it might be helpful to gain as much info as possible from the hostname itself to help feed the scripts and workflows.

On-Prem: I've been trying in our test environment 2203CU1 -&gt; 2212 Win10 Non-persistent single session, fails to launch and VDA unregisters after connection failure.

In-place upgrade or VDA Cleanup -&gt; install, brokers on 2112, 2 domain, two way trust and a fairly vanilla config.

FWIW, Update #1 was a Private Hotfix swing and miss.  Back to DevA it sounds like.

dont go 2209, we have seen issues with multiple screens and different DPI setups. 2212 looks better.
We are not using FSlogix, CTX UPM and UPM containers for Teams, Outlook and search.

Might not want to hear it, but as heavy consumer of SaaS and web apps, Okta is a blessing - the experience as a consumer is awesome - doesn’t answer your question of course but some food for thought 

yeah OKTA is great and works really well :slightly_smiling_face:  at the moment we are currently using both OKTA/Citrix for SAAS/Web app delivery so have duplication so was looking for reasons to use citrix  instead of OKTA but its a bit of a hard sell

I got things like Data you download from the web apps / SAAS apps is stored centrally in citrix vs local with OKTA , security controls around clipboard, printing , watermark ect it seems like the cloud service Citrix secure private access is a must for delivering  SAAS/Web apps as it gives you the SSO/contextual access/Secure browser/security analytics ect

If you need more advanced security is what comes to mind. Yhjngs like running only from an on premises datacenter or controlling cut padte print etc.  

Yeah I think that’s probably the biggest component - if there is still data protection and centralised configuration then Citrix sessions still win - specific enablement tools (old school Siebel and JDE deployments still haunt me) can come into play too 

Totally agree with JK. Okta is currently used by my customer, and it flows very well with the DaaS as well as with the on premise environment.

Well, I went ahead and put in a Citrix UPM Registry exclusion for that path and have gone from about 50 tickets to Zero tickets for users creating temporary profiles when the logout and back in quickly and profile didn't unload in time.

Feels like a WIN to me.

Edit to add: This also was being seen as "hung sessions" with the 4 processes hanging out. (csrss, dwm, winlogon, logonui). UserProfileManager was processing the registry during logoff and this keys below here have "recently(?)" begun growing to very large numbers it seems. Used ProcMon to determine the path and it was consistent for users having the issue.

Nice find. I have the “hung session” issue that has those 4 processes that I cannot terminate. I will add this as an exception and see if it fixes my problem also. Thanks for sharing !

I avoid trend at all costs, Defender is being used on a couple of my customers - its light weight and fits perfectly if you have M365 services - havent had an issue yet...

We went from Trend to CrowdStrike and wouldn't look back.

At my last place, we ran Trend Micro Apex One (loved it, would recommend it), but switched to Defender before I left. More resource intensive, somehow, but worked well.

New place has CrowdStrike and a handful of other trash apps.

<@ULC9J5XPB> Apex One was responsible for high PVS Target Device Retries in my last setup. Same Exclusions in combination with Windows Defender and the issue has gone. Did you experience that aswell?

We had it on W10 and S16 PVS non-persistent VDAs running 1912 CU3.

Active / Active is always tricky. I've done this with DFSR before but it tends to add quite a bit of overhead in managing profiles. You need to make sure they're not too large so exclusions need to be spot on. Never use Active Writeback with this solution as it'll send your replication nuts. 

Cloud Cache works great, I love it. Storage Replicas as James said are active/passive. Bvckup is very cool and again just works. 

I've not tested CPM multi location yet but I want to.

Lads, had my first look around first hand on this one... Citrix Cloud is the control plane... they have 2 DC locations running ADC/GSLB with x2 SF and x2 CC's in each... as its technically one site from a Citrix perspective there isnt any option for SF Aggregation.. they have recently resized the File servers hosting Citrix profiles (2 clusters in each site with SR to the partner). They are light on doco, Ive yet to understand how they are placing profiles in their home/pinned location... the File server have 20Gb cards... the link its 200Gb between sites (theres is around 4TB of profile/User data)... If they are using CPM and not FSLogix then jumbo frames will give a negligible performance boost with 20GB cards, just because all the files are small. NUMA is good for any server but not always possible for infra. RSS sure, that'll make a difference for lots of small file transfers, VM Queueing IMO if negligible, depends on HyperVisor.

I did note some specific file server enhancements for James Rankin a while back and it did give him a little boost.

Windows file servers are pretty good at doing the job out the box but all the little things that need tweaking are usually HyperVisor / Use Case dependent. All of this is a great info though.

Com Port mapping is not working anymore with VDA 2209, we checked server 2016 and 2019.
Same image with VDA 2203 works fine.
error message is "system error 87"

we cannot test win10, means with VDA 1912 Com Port mapping works, as we have an open incident about newer VDA's not applying Citrix policies, we are not able to test with single OS

I have not done it so you will probably want to test with just one test user first but you can export the subscriptions, modify the text file and import them back. You will probably have to change the entries for resource-id as they will have the name of your controller object in Storefront. So if it is named differently in the other sites storefronts then it will need changing.  Obviously for this to work all of the display names for all your apps also have to match

no, not that i know of. Still need RDS licensing server to go downlevel to clients; can't go up unless something happened I am not aware of, but highly doubt it. I have been focusing so much on W10 Multisession recently, it has been nice not worrying about good ole RDS licenses for a bit. ha

No, to be able to install 2022 RDS licenses you will need a 2022 RDS licensing server.

We have published 2016 servers desktop for Users, when users launch word from published desktop, on task bar instead of word icon it shows PowerPoint icon, 
On server RDP/Console it is right icon. 
Compared the GPO but There is no difference Any suggestion

That is using the HDX protocol, which is different that Generic USB

interesting...but i use usb devices to connect my headset and microphone..i didn't realize that by disabling those devices a headset will still work.

natively they are not considered USB devices. Even though they are, because the HDX technology is passing them through. When you connect to a desktop, then at the top you will see no options for usb devices. But if you enable USB policy, then it will allow you to set USB policies based on Generic USB. Which either is not compatible with the HDX setup/Or is so old generic is the only way to get it to work.

No USB policy defined, But will pass headset/cams if they are compatible with the HDX technology.

If you have USB policy set, In the back desktop veiwer you will see an option for USB devices. Then inside that you can toggle between Generice/Optimized USB support.

since the virtual channel says realtime does that mean its coming over UDP?

Download HDX monitor and run it in the vda and see if it gives you more data

Well, now that I think about it…. It would say that on a single session OS. I believe multisession OS os different. It’s been a while since I configured it as well.

"ctxsession -v" from session command prompt will show if anything at all is over UDP
