No, ThinOS is not Linux afaik.
No, not yet. I only get info once it's too late. The users complain about bad performance and the customer reboots the VDA.

These are all the settings, I tend to stick strictly to the Citrix defaults regarding anything graphics.

(P.S: You do not have to disable HW Encoding if you don't have a GPU. The policy does nothing when you do not have a GPU in your VDA)

I asked the customer, the causative user were always ThinOS users, I'm trying to get more info.

I just looked at the Dell website, but ThinOS is definitely Linux based

You can try to kill ctxgfx.exe and see if the performance recovers. Though that's not a solution but maybe a workaround until fixed.
I had an environment were we had to kill the process twice a day in order to keep performance, but that was long ago and single session OS.

Last time I observed the issue the EXE was un-killable.

Only a Force Reboot fixed the issue. Completly forgot to mention this.

Those are release notes.  “Known issues” are updated infrequently and usually don’t actually contain all the known issues until some time later.

No I’m asking about direct access to the [CVADHELP] files. Oftentimes someone with internal access will say “yeah that issue you’ve been scrambling to fix is CVADHELP blah” but until Citrix link that to a release note or to some KB it’s unfindable.

Now it’s all scattered about into “known issues” notes in the documentation for each specific piece of software, vda, profile mgmt, wem, pvs, etc etc.  There also used to be a semi decent compatibility doc that talked about MS patches, highlighting issues.

<@UNBRPVD4G> Happend again today, customer gathered info. I was surprised. The session where the EXE had 25% and ruining the UX was from a Windows 10 PC with 1 Monitor.

Anyone come across an issue where the Citrix Monitor service keeps using very high amounts of RAM and eventually crashes the DDC? We moved our SQL databases to Server 2019 on our 1912 CU3 DDCs in preparation to move 2203 and now the issue seems to be occurring in all our sites. All the SQL database connections look good, and the Test Site succeeds with no issues.

Oh I have seen this sort of weird behaviour if there is user and computer policies in the same Citrix policies and then filtered - still shows up and gets confusing

New day, new challenges. To remedy the problem in this thread and shown in my video <https://discussions.citrix.com/topic/379350-published-app-black-frames/> I disabled "View content while dragging" but it's not honored if you start dragging in maximized mode. The main problem however is the strange frames/shadows.

Yes; the only thing to watch out for is the Cloud Connector piece of the install, where you can choose "Do this later" (or similar) and then use a GPO for passing the FQDNs of the Cloud Connectors to the VDAs when they're spawned from your Image.  I think "Let MCS do it automatically" will work, too (at provisioning time) but I don't usually use that option...

yeah, i've had some major challenges with it as well.  Had some success with the above, and setting the MTU in the default ICA file.. However, with all the CVEs and shit that's happened with EDT over the past 2 years, i just turned it off across the board.

discovery all dynamic ASSUMING endpoints support that as well. So VDA has supported dynamic MTU now for a bit with Windows first then others coming after. The hard coded MTU would only be needed if needing to set it for CWAs that ignored the MTU discovery.

I can't speak on the Azure part, But on the other stuff, I would do this in the past. Which is what <@U02TDPX0M5G> Just did.
Example of not have the key and using default MTU setting which is 1500.

Overtime and with a lot of user feedback, I've had to go as low as 1338 to have reliability from any ISP/4G network connected device from anywhere within Australia. I found the further away the 4G tower was from a City, the lower the value had to be to make it reliable.

Mousepointer disappears on second Desktop
Hi, i have some trouble with the Mousepointer which disappears on the second Desktop in Fullscreen. When i do some clicks on the desktops the mousepointer appears, but disappears few seconds later. Different Devices, VDA Version, Workspace Versions do not change anything. Also new Image installation doesn't fix it. GPOs are the same like an different DeliveryGroup with the same image without that trouble

Is this something where I'd have to actually set that VC policy to Disabled and not leave it at the default?

I see the usual CitrixCseEngine notifications saying that it processed RSOP for my user account, nothing weird.

I do think it's weird that the cloud console would show the VC policy as being disabled by default. I would have assumed that'd follow the newer VDAs since it's cloud.

Ha, I think my assumption was correct. If I manually add the registry key that disabled the VC policy, the VC opens.

Gonna test it out by setting the policy in Studio to actually confirm this the right way.

We never had that policy set, no, but I saw the same issue with both 2203 CU1 and CU2 - VCs do not open. 1912 CU2-CU5, they open fine.

Cloud studio says the default is Disabled, and we do not have that policy set (to enforce it). I'm going to see if I can set that policy today and keep it at the default Disabled to see if that works.

I'd expect it to work without me setting that policy, honestly.

I've been meaning to look into this, but when another team started telling me that 2203 was broken because of the picadd event log entries, I had to correct them. Figured it was the right time to address this since we'll be rolling out 2203 CU2 in the next few weeks for testing.

I just ran into this and it’s incredibly obtuse wording. You’re disabling an allow list by default, which actually enables virtual channels, except if you’re on a certain version of the VDA, where it enables the allow list which actually disables virtual channels. There has to be a simpler way to word this without so many double negatives.

So I'm troubleshooting Webex causing BSOD's in 2203 (never listed as the faulting module, but always happens when I join a meeting), and I noticed something weird.

When these crashes happen, Webex is not optimized.

In the App event log, at the same timestamp, I see an info event for Citrix Group Policy starting RSOP calculation. The next event in System shows the picadd 'we tried opening blah blah' entries, and Webex will start opening unoptimized.

Nothing special, it’s straight forward. I would always install the latest Visual C+ Redistributable first, so the installer doesn’t need to reboot. And don’t forget to update the machine catalog and delivery group after updating the VDA.

We don't have that installed, no. I think I've got a plan for troubleshooting, just have to play the waiting game now. I've got two 2203 VDAs (CU1 and CU2), one with Tanium and one without. Gonna use the one without for a week to see if it crashes. If not, I'll switch to the other for a week. If it does crash, I'll have the Tanium guys use that VDA for testing.

Welp, still crashing without Tanium, so onto the next avenue.

CPU utilization went from an average of 50% down to 20% after removing Tanium, though, lol

CVAD Licenses are tied to the Hostname of the License server. Both Farms can use the same license server, DNS isn't even required. Just point everything to IP:27000.

Just do it Ray, technically it's the same production environment, the users are just spread across locations whilst you migrate, you won't actually have more users logging in. I'm sure there is a clause about this somewhere.

We were a Nortel shop when I was looking into MTU stuff.

Had to lower it to get it to work at all for users on AnyConnect VPN.

Regardless of vendor I've had to lower MTUs to overcome crappy networks at times, sometimes the networking piece was outside our control and was easier to change the MTU than trying to get it resolved :confused:

Any more details on this? I currently only have one client on 2203CU2 and am not seeing any issue. The servers are 2019 OS and using various versions of Workspace app. I am assuming we are talking about auto-created *client* printers.  I want to roll CU2 to more clients, but I don't want them to have issues either.

yea, good question - was this session printers or the dynamic printers from client coming in?

Maybe not related and/or maybe a well-known problem on this forum, but we were experiencing app freezing for months with various LTSR 1912 and LTSR 2203 versions.  Citrix tracked it down to clients' local printers.  At first we disabled all auto-created printers but later backed that off so that at least the clients' default printers were auto-created.  I haven't heard of any freezes lately.  It also would have helped if users had deleted any local printers that were not needed.

I run it every time I open a golden image. Most of it will already show optimized, but as times goes on, sometimes things would get undone and it will catch it and set it back.

I capture the image in a PVS vdisk to get it into the pvs vdisk farm. Then I do my optimizations and then do them on every update

bis-f runs it for me every time the disk is sealed.

The rule of thumb I always try to follow with these collaboration/Softphone tools is this.
1. Most cases, the vendor will make a VDI installer, that will use the virtual channel for Citrix. Meaning there is a VDI install that will go on the VDA, then there is a client part that will work in conjunction with the VDI install to offload the ICA-audio traffic through the ICA Virtual Channel.
2. If there is not one made, then I fail back to trying to use Citrix policies, but it will not get the best experience vs the vendor native installer.

For this case, There is a Jabber VDI installer. I never used Jabber in a Citrix Session, But i have used Webex, Zoom, Skpe RTME, BlueJeans, Avaya. They are all just about the same.

It was more around a high level with some configurations. But the purpose was to show the audience how these tools work in a VDI session.

From my experience, the slack channels that was put together is just for this. You may not always get the answers but most of the time the folks on here will point you in the direction you are seeking.
