I reckon I could fit 8 across in two rows and then 12 nucs in front of them in two rows, the rows being in height as a stack

Has anyone seen an issue with Ubiquite APs where signal is strong but the device is connected to it but there is not internet connection? Only way to get it back is rebooting the AP of moving my WiFi connection to a different WiFi network and then switching it back. My Ubiquiti AP is connected to my ASUS WiFi rounter. I’m wondering if I should replace that router with the Ubiquiti UniFi Secure Gateway?

I was on PTO for a few days but returned to find a USG Pro and 48 port 750 watt UniFi switch waiting. Popped them in. First impression is switch is solid and gives a great layer of visibility in Controller. USG though, holy crap this thing is more bare bones out of the box than I thought (and I knew this going in). A consumer level router has more features. You drop tomato or dd-wrt on one of these and it's no contest which offers more bang for the buck. I came across a few issues with the USG Pro, a couple were fixed thanks to people on the forums that went through the same. Other issues are scheduled to be fixed in an upcoming release or are still unknown on the forums. After getting all this situated I've got a basic config going that will get me by for now. I can recommend the other Ubnt gear to smbs with confidence but no way can I recommend the USG to any company in its current state. For something with "Security" in the product name the freaking thing responds to external ICMP unless you put in a rule, lol. Which will be disabled by default in the next release btw. I think the hardware is very capable but in my opinion it's gonna take at least another year of software releases before it's as good as other items I've tried in the UniFi line. For now i think I will be using a combo of USG + other security appliances until the software becomes fully capable.

Sorry I just slammed through them and wasn't documenting. From what I remember, getting eth0 working on a non 192.x network, built in speed test bringing wan down to a crawl, dials on Controller dashboard being completely off, some issue with ISP DNS vs Google DNS causing wan to appear as if it's flapping, weird ICMP drops, firmware unable to upgrade from Controllet (had to ssh in and do the initial update manually)

Just out of curiosity I setup emco ping monitor right after it was stabilized. 4 outages and latency spiked as high as 1455 ms to google.com. This is on the latest USG fw. I've never heard of "the internet is slow" complaints until I popped the USG in. Will need to dive deeper when I have time

Hello @Jason Samuel thank you for sharing. I don't know if you so my previous question/comment about having issues with the Unifi AP pro, I basically had to reboot every other day to be able to browse the internet, and only have 5 devices connected. This AP is connected to my ASUS RT66-N router. But my router is 256MB of RAM and 1xcore, it is always at 80-90% ram utilization and 30% CPU so i thought that my issue could be they wifi router. The USG had doble so I just ordered it last night. I'm starting to think it was the right thing to do. Maybe get a newer ASUS router? What do you think?

@User That's odd, I have not come across that issue on any of my UniFi APs. Did you disable both of the radios on the ASUS after putting the UniFi APs in place? There is an option in Controller to do s site survey to check for interference from neighbors I believe. I have not used it but have you tried running that? It's hard to believe the issue could be your router if it was all working fine before. There should be less load on your router at this point with WiFi disabled on it

@User And USG is fine, you just have to be aware it's really really barebones going in until the software gets updated to match the rest of the line. I knew this going in. If you're looking for a rock solid router and don't feel like tinkering with it, then yeah something like ASUS would be best

I haven’t stopped the radio on the ASUS since I wanted to test this AP first. I actually created a new WiFI network for it. I guess I could disable the Radio on the ASUS and use the same name.

Yeah that makes a big difference. So I did the same as you initially. Once I disabled the ASUS WiFi though I noticed the channels on UniFI were no longer bouncing all over the place

How did you check on the channels bouncing? I also was talking to a friend that is network expert and he recommended that when one has multiple APs, channels should be set to static and choose a different channel for each AP

I set everything to default (Auto) because you can't control what your neighbors do. There are cars driving by with WiFi hotspots that the Controller is picking up, lol. In Controller go to Devices and hit the little gear on the right. Check the Channel and the column will appear.
