I know you use the SM TNT4 as a workstation Carl and remembered Paul from tinkertry.com put his in a closet behind the office and just pushed cables for monitor and Anker.

Do you know if TinkerTry has any 10-core or 12-core servers that don't have the bad Intel 10G bug? Where would I look in my current 8-core servers to see if they support an M.2 drive?

Ask him on Twitter, he’s not active here and I’m not on 10G yet. All M2 drive works so just go with the new Samsung EVO 970 now also available in 2TB

Found the server specs and it says PCI-E M.2. I assume that means I would need a pci-e card.

There’s a M2 slot on the mother board as well

For PCI i’m using Intel 750 but you could also add PCI to M2 adapter

Careful with M.2 as there are at least 3 different sizes and some won't necessarily fit a smaller space.

Regarding the Anker devices, they are working great onboth my MBPro and WIn10 desktop. Cables are thick and sturdy and nothing goes sliding off my desks and I am getting no popups stating there was a USB port overpower state. THanks for posting the info on this device. I got a 9-port for my WIn10 desktop and a 7-port for my MBPro.

Looking into some of the ubiquiti gear. As I understand it the cloud key allows you not to have a dedicated controller machine. What I’m not getting a warm fuzzy on is what happens if that goes bye bye. Everything keeps working but can’t change config I hope? If needing to replace how does that work?

@User Don't bother w the cloud key. Spin up a vm instead.

First, the device is $80. Second, I've had multiple times where they go offline & there's no good easy way to reboot them.

Solid points. Same questions on management for controller vm though. What happens when offline and if need to replace what is the process?

That blog post should give you plenty of ideas. For now I run mine out of the Google Cloud. You could use Vultr, Linode, AWS etc. You get the point!

If the Controller goes offline nothing happens. Like you said you were not able to change the config comfortably. You can still SSH into your devices (if you have activated it) and configure them thru CLI. Iam runnig the COntroller on a Raspberry Pi3 which is also serving as libreELEC media center. If you do "Auto Backup" and download the files you are just firing up a new Controller and importing the backupfile and you are good to go. I see no need for a cloudkey if you have "spare" hardware...

I know UBNT is a popular choice but I’d recommend looking into Ruckus, maybe not as Slick in terms of UI but it’s been rock solid over the past 18 months in our new house.

Depending on your environment size, with the Cloud Key you'll to be aware that it runs a 32bit version of MongoDB (2GB db limit)

(Built in battery) Nice, that was always a pain point with the CK going down hard and corrupting the DB

@User go CloudKey, you won’t regret. I even have it in my portable labs, over kill maybe but VM for CK is a no go IMHO

I'm for, as long as your environment is sized/configured correctly (historical metrics).
