Greetings, my dad is 85 and his health is starting to decline rapidly. He still lives at home and has started falling. I looked into Life Alert but my word they are expensive. Do any of you have experience with anything like Life Alert? He rarely leaves the house as it is too much effort to get him in and out of his van. He is not very mobile and uses a walker. His house was built in the 60s and he has lived there since 2-Apr-1972 so the house is not handicapped accessible. I need something my dad can wear or can be attached to him that can be used to alert 911 or a service when he falls. Thanks

Sorry to hear that, @Webster Webster. It's challenging and emotional to deal with aging parents.

And you, as well, @Jarian Gibson. Had to go through that already with mine, though my mom was at least still quite mobile.

At least, with my dad, if he has to go to a nursing home, he has no out of pocket expense because of the Agent Orange settlement . He has already picked out a nursing home but we are trying to keep him at home as long as possible but that may not last much longer

I would rather die in my house than in a nursing home (if at all possible)

Plus, as the GPOA for my dad, I would have to deal with selling his house and other assets if he goes to a nursing home

Agent Orange is just so nasty. My grandfather suffered from some CRAZY brain issues a few years ago that they ultimately think is related to when he was walking under the wing of a plane and a whole canister of it dumped on him. He's still home and still alive, but only because my grandmother fought like hell.

There's pretty solid evidence that a co-worker of mine who recently retired got Parkinson's Disease because of AO. I'm sorry for anyone going though the aftermath of AO-related issues.

For my grandfather (99 yrs) my dad and his siblings are paying for a nurse from Czech Republic. In total there are two nurses who changing every 4 weeks. So one lady will be on site for one month (4 weeks) and then the other one's coming for 4 weeks. Thats pretty common in DE and its also subsidized by the healthcare system. My grandfather likes it because he can stay at home and thankfully he is fully mobile...
