Lab rats, and especially NTNX lab rats. Is there a way I can use Nutanix CE with vSphere? Don't ask why. That's how I would need it for my lab.

Do you mean to use vSphere as the hypervisor on CE?

    Or nest CE on vSphere?

To answer those questions, CE is AHV only and it can't be changed. You can create a demo CE nested on vSphere but your CE hypervisor continues to be AHV

@User I think so he wants to use nested one

You can also use Ravello for cloud CE. They are very affordable and everything is preloaded

    @User native hypervisor, not nested.

    I know it's not possible. Just asking if "there's a way" :))

    THAT way

    The unnoficial way

Sorry, but this is nop an option. We have been asking for it though

Don't think will come due to the VMW-NTNX war

Well that works today when you buy certified hardware
  • u

So it is NTNX stopping CE from doing it

The installer has code that looks for specific things to allow the installation. With CE those restrictions are remove but you are locked in with AHV. To be honest AHV is pretty good

With NGTs is simpler to move VMs back and forth between ESX and AHV

@User AHV in CE is lab only, no production allowed?

CE is community supported, doesn't have official nutanix support

So I run part of my home lab on it but I don't know if I will run ENT prod on it

Regular NTNX nodes running AHV is production supported by Nutanix.

CE=AHV today, so I usually only speak of CE because AHV is "built-in"

I wonder if there are people out there using CE in production?

    That I don't know

I have heard of some people using CE as a replication / protection partner but smaller shops

    What are they "replicating" from?

    Full prod NTNX cluster

Ok, that makes sense! Probably saving some major $$

i would not recommend to run ce for production. it's great for (home) lab, testing, poc etc. where the limitations will be no problem
