Hi, can anyone suggest how much the company is spending on learning and development for employees and how do they decide the budget?

This differs from org to org. Short answer is, some put aside a certain % of total budget to L&D initiatives (say 2%). In such a case, it's usually org-led L&D initiatives with employees generally not having much scope of choosing specific courses/certifications right at the first stage Some orgs go the other way and assign a per person/per team budget and leave it upto the managers/ICs to decide how this is utilized

Budgets for training are solely based on the needs and requirements of the company. Bensely Zachariah, Global Head of Human Resources at Fulcrum digital mentions - “A good company or a decent company for L&D strategies spend almost 1% of the total revenue on L&D. And some exceptional companies may go up from 1.5%-2%. And I've heard that some companies spend around 2%-2.5% on consulting, which is a lot of money. But most of the companies would work at the range of maybe around 0.5%.” Based on a company's priorities, an L&D strategy can be built in a budget-friendly manner by conducting group sessions, in-house training, mentor-mentee relationship with seniors, e-learning and much more. https://hrbrainpickings.beehiiv.com/p/learninganddevelopment

Hello, here are my thoughts on L&D budget while 1% on learning is the absolute correct direction as mentioned above. I would also break it down to QnQ spending on the following areas :
Upskilling / Content / Partnership and digital initiatives --- This can be looked at QnQ - e.g first quarter can only be spent on content which means buying/creating ( tools ) or crowdsourcing - that would need $ 5K or XX amount. This way you will be able to upcome with a measurable budget utilisation.
