Hi everyone – today we’re announcing the next phase in Stacker’s journey: Stacker AI. You can read the full announcement here: https://stackerhq.com/blog/introducing-stacker-ai In some ways, this is a continuation of what we’ve always been doing – empowering people to build software without writing code. In many other ways, it’s an entirely new chapter. Our new AI builder will enable apps be created faster than ever before, by a wider audience that includes people who would never have been able to succeed with pure no-code. It’ll also massively increase the scope of what’s possible to build in Stacker by allowing us to do things our platform never could do before. We’re really excited about this as the next big step in our mission to bring the power of software to everyone. More details in the 🧵, but a quick TL;DR • We've found a way to make this work on top of our existing no-code builder • We'll be continuing support for Astra customers directly onto Stacker AI • We'll be shipping tools to help Classic customers migrate more easily

We’ve had a lot of feedback following the announcement that we’re going to be sunsetting Astra, with lots of people asking whether we could find a way to continue it. I’m happy to say that we’ve found a way to make this AI building work on top of our existing no-code application platform. 🚀
That means that if you’re already building applications, you can continue, but with the option of and AI builder to help where you need it. You’ll also be able to ask the agent to create new functionality that you’d not seen before: new widgets for your detail pages, entire new pages that display data in completely new ways.
It also means we’ll be redoubling our efforts to make the Stacker platform as flexible, and powerful as possible. We think that the more that can be done in pure no-code, the better, and so we will continue to ship new ways improve your applications, work with your data, automate your work and connect to the rest of your digital landscape. Stacker AI will have all the power of Stacker Astra, and we’ll be bringing across the best bits of Stacker Classic too – starting with our data connectors.
For those who are still using Astra: you can continue doing so, and we’ll be automatically migrating you to Stacker AI behind the scenes once it’s released in a month or so. And for those of you on Classic, we’ll be shipping tools to help you migrate as easily as possible.
I know it’s been a bit of a crazy time, and there’s been quite a bit of delay between us announcing the sunsetting of Astra and revealing this, but I’m glad we did, as I think the overall direction we’ve come to, with the help of your feedback, is better than we had originally planned.
I’m really grateful for all of you who’ve shown passionate support for the platform, as well as patience with us while we figured out the best path forward. This is a reminder for us to constantly be communicating our plans, and to keep listening to what this community has to say. 🙏

This is great news!! Thank you Stacker Team!

Looks cool, excited to try it. Will you still be supporting the Airtable integration @rough-orange-4490? Specifically, if an Astra or Classic app is connected to Airtable as a data source, will that still be the case after the transition?

Love this move Michael

We will be supporting Airtable, and other external integrations!

Astra will migrate automatically. Classic won't be automatic, but we'll give you tools to minimize the work (i.e. so you don't have to rebuild all your views!)

@rough-orange-4490 Phew! I was trying to vibe code out something similar to Astra since it was going away, it was not going great lol. Thank god I can stay on Stacker 🙂

Thanks Michael, appreciate it. Unfortunately I have had to move to Noloco as I thought Astra was going at the end of the year, and I couldn't wait as needed to start rebuilding. I'm stoked you are keeping Astra, the UI was so much better than Classic.

Trying to be 100% sure. The new Astra version will support airtable as a database?
a
@rough-orange-4490 Are you planning for StackerAI have the ability to create custom modules or will it just build based on whats available in Astra?
a
Hi, is there any update on the tools to transition “classic” on Airtable applications? Thanks
r
@abundant-dinner-65974 what sort of custom modules do you mean? We definitely do plan to have it be able to build new components from code
@ancient-portugal-25644 Not yet, but if it's ok, I'll note you down as someone who would be interested in trying them out. It should be a "try this and continue using your existing app" thing.
a
Thanks Michael
a
@rough-orange-4490 there’s a few but the most needed one I see is a records list component that allows true inline editing (not just the context menu). So basically the DB view where you can edit multiple parameters easily
r
Yeah, so basically a spreadsheet/grid view?
a
Yup. Others as well, not just me, but yeah exactly

any news on this?

Hello @rough-orange-4490, the other day I wanted to migrate a classic app (Airtable based) to the new version, only to find out that the auto link feature is not available there. We do rely on this to stitch data together. When do you plan to add the autolink feature? (Note: We can't do this in Airtable, no.)
