Hello everyone, Today, we’re officially announcing that we’ll be sunsetting the Stacker Astra product, and refocus on our work around allowing organisations to create AI agents to power their operations. Why we’re making this change After a lot of reflection, we’ve decided to sunset Astra. This has been an incredibly hard decision: Astra is the culmination of our vision for what a no-code business platform could look like. Unfortunately, having reviewed all the factors, it’s clear to us that this isn’t a sustainable product for us to continue developing. • Push factors – Lack of adoption, and the rise of AI vibe coding : Astra didn’t gain the kind of adoption we needed to keep investing in it long-term. While some teams loved it, many found Airtable’s growing ecosystem of portals and interfaces increasingly met their needs—making it harder for Astra to stand out or justify switching. At the same time, we’ve seen a surge in teams turning to new AI-powered tools to create highly customized software solutions to their problems. Ultimately, it became clear that maintaining a complex platform like Astra without that strong traction just wasn't the right path forward. • Pull factors – A shift towards AI agents : On the other hand, we've seen a compelling opportunity that continues to align with our core mission: bringing the power of software to every team. We believe the future of that lies less in building software for humans, and more in AI agents that can free people from manual operational tasks and let them focus on more valuable work. Refocusing on this vision means putting our energy into helping teams build these AI-driven agents. We’re excited about where this can take us and the impact it can make in the world. What this means for you • If you were using Astra, we should have already been in touch directly and will continue to support you through the wind-down process. • If you’re using currently Stacker Classic, nothing changes—we’re extending our support commitment so you can keep using it with confidence. It will remain stable, although we won’t be adding any new functionality to it, as we focus on developing our AI agents platform. Most importantly: thank you. To everyone who used Astra, gave us feedback, encouraged us, or even just tried it out—*we’re incredibly grateful*. You helped us learn faster and see more clearly. Your support has shaped where we go next, and we’re excited to keep building the next generation of software.
I know this will be disappointing news for many of you, and there's a good chance that you've still got questions that I've not covered. My DMs are open for feedback and clarification, and our support team will also be able to help.

thank you, michael. one question please: will you keep Classic as a product for new customers?
g
Thanks Michael. I wish you the best with the new strategy. Stacker was for me a great experience. You created something create. Until today I can create apps in minutes that solve real world problems and (the most important part) prevent people creating Excel Sheets! I did not quite understood your move to go to a complete new version without a migration path, but we'll... @helpful-caravan-75149 This sounds like a pretty clear statement to use a different platform for new projects. My 5 cent: I doubt that any serious Stacker Customer would replace their apps with an AI vibe coded app. Not yet.

Thanks for the update. I think the lack of traction towards Astra may have been compounded with the lack of direct migration path. For many of us, that was the issue as I wanted to take advantage of the features available. In terms of Classic, for Stacker, it's not sustainable to keep supporting that platform indefinitely I would imagine - it would be helpful if we were given a realistic date for when that too will be retired to allow us time to plan a shift to alternative web front ends for those of us who are not on-board with Airtable's interfaces (they lack the granularity of Stacker) which is critical for me (and probably everyone else). The beauty of Stacker was the simplicity and speed of execution building MVPs and PoCs initially and then the subsequent refinement into a business-ready application.

Thanks for the update, @rough-orange-4490. Airtable+Stacker is a game-changing solution for all of my clients. Airtable interfaces, while exciting, don’t meet the mark for organizations with security role access. Also, in my opinion, Vibe coding is a fad. It may get you started, but does not build the entire experience. Vibe coding cannot handle complex organizational processes or digital transformation. I am a no-code developer, but most of my offering is change management. If my two cents count, I wish the classic stacker were built with more integrations, automations, view types, and AI agents.

Did not see that coming, specially since I just started a new project in Astra 😄. Curious to know... Will there be any other products? You mentioned focus will be on AI agents?

The fact Classic won’t get any update is not a welcome move. It basically means it will also be sunset at some unknown point in the future. I think you’re forgetting your biggest strength, the reason why so many people use Stacker is because how quickly it is to build apps with complex workflows. Airtable Interfaces lacks many features and overall can only be used for simple projects. Their pricing is also very aggressive and too costly. Stacker is a great in-between. I really wish you would reconsider improving Classic, it could use quite a few improvements overall. Especially around filters and conditional visibility which are still too limited. (fields, blocks, tabs, pages)

@sticky-night-20812 i think we all feel the same, however, if I had to guess, the classic’s architecture does not really support much of what you propose (which was possibly one of the main reasons for the team to start working on Astra).
s
I don’t think that’s the case. Classic already has filters and conditional visibility features, they just aren’t powerful enough and don’t always allow to add filters related to the current user.
Although there certainly is technical debt there.

Just to second what Ambroise said, we have Airtable Enterprise and access to a lot of features, but none of them come close to what we can do with Stacker. And even with those features (reports, interface views, forms, charts, etc.), we're putting them back in Stacker for accessibility. Airtable really misses the mark when it comes to permissions and their price point for users is way too high for a company like ours when we can get access for all of our staff and clients (students and families) via Stacker. Their AI (Omni, field agents) is coming along but not reliable enough for us to really build anything on it. As a company that has continued to use Classic, I just want to mention that we've been really satisfied with its stability. If anything, its consistent performance has meant less need for us to be vocal, and I don't want that to get chalked up to dissatisfaction or disinterest. I'd be happy to increase engagement and provide more active feedback, give testimonials, etc. if that would be helpful to you as company! 🤗

Since this announcement I have been weighing up my options - with 14 or so apps, over 460 individual tables, and 14000 fields, I cannot risk the carpet being pulled from under me with little to no notice. It's disappointing, but it looks like my future will be a shift to another tool. I've had an initial chat with a potential replacement, and further discussions planned later today to dot the i's and cross the t's.

Stacker Classic has been game changing for us. I still remember the day I first discovered the version before it. It was an Eureka! moment. Curious about what you guys will replace Stacker Astra/Classic with? For us, it's most likely going to be Glide. @limited-megabyte-13687 FYI.
h
for us, the dealmaker has been the unlimited number of external users. most (if not all, I haven’t found any) charge per named user, which doesn’t scale nicely for us 😞

Hi @dry-byte-39442 I’m talking to Noloco just now. It’s the closest to stacker in terms of how it’s setup and configured. Like you, I have a multiple apps and i’m keen to keep my data and front-end separate

So sade , stacker classic believe me is for nonecoding person like me the only tool I can use. This is the strength of the product and for this reason it is unique !! I am sure there is a market !!

@careful-church-6092 Have a look at Noloco, it functions more or less like Stacker but with some additional enhancements too such as ability to make changes, test, and then commit to production.

Update here - we have heard you, and we have reversed this decision. Astra will no longer be sunset and instead will be automatically transitioned into our new Stacker AI offering. We'll also be making some tools to make it possible to migrate from Classic. You can read all about it here: https://stacker-customers.slack.com/archives/CMZK26G76/p1759315858435239
