@AI Evy I want my agent to read the inbound caller's phone number out loud mid-call (caller ID / from_number) so the caller can confirm it's the best callback number. I've tried referencing it as a dynamic variable in the node prompt, but it comes through empty. It only seems available after the call via post-call analysis. Is there a built-in dynamic variable for the inbound caller's number that resolves in real time during the call, and if so, what's the exact variable name?

Thanks for tagging me @Bangash. I'll look through relevant sources and get back to you shortly.
### Answer For inbound phone calls, you can use the
{{user_number}}
dynamic variable to access the caller's phone number during the call [(1) ]() . According to the documentation,
{{user_number}}
represents the user's phone number, which for inbound calls is the
from_number
. This is one of the default system variables that Retell automatically provides without any configuration required . You can use
{{user_number}}
in: - Prompts and agent instructions - Begin message (opening greeting) - Tool configurations - Node prompts in conversation flows For example, you could add something like this to your node prompt: "I see you're calling from {{user_number}}. Can you confirm this is the best number to reach you at?" The variable should resolve in real time during the call. If it's coming through empty, double-check that: 1. You're using the exact syntax with double curly braces:
{{user_number}}
2. The spaces around the variable name are minimal (they get trimmed when evaluating) This variable is specifically available for phone calls only .
