### Answer
 For chat or SMS conversations, a session is considered complete when you explicitly end it using the `end-chat` API endpoint [(1) ](<https://docs.retellai.com/deploy/create-chat-completion>) . You can also configure Auto-Close Inactive Chats, which will automatically end the chat when the timeout is triggered . Additionally, you can set `end_chat_after_silence_ms` on your chat agent to specify how long to wait before automatically closing due to inactivity [(2) ](<https://docs.retellai.com/api-references/update-chat-agent>) .

When a chat ends, Retell triggers the `chat_ended` webhook event, followed by the `chat_analyzed` event once analysis is complete [(3) ](<https://docs.retellai.com/features/webhook-overview>) .
