@AI Evy I bought a retell number on my workspace and connected it to an inbound agent but when someone is calling this number (from US), it's saying this number has some restriction to receive calls why is that?

Thanks for tagging me @Tahmid Emam. I'll look through relevant sources and get back to you shortly.
### Answer Based on the available sources, there are a few potential causes for this issue: Check Allowed Country List Configuration Your phone number might have restrictions on which countries can call it. The phone number configuration includes an
allowed_inbound_country_list
field that specifies which countries are permitted to make inbound calls [(1) ]() . If this list is set but doesn't include "US", calls from US numbers would be blocked . Verify Agent Binding Ensure your inbound agent is properly bound to the number. The phone number should have either
inbound_agent_id
set or the
inbound_agents
array configured with at least one agent . Common Troubleshooting Steps Based on similar cases in the community: 1. Check your Retell dashboard to confirm the inbound agent hasn't been automatically disabled or reset to "None" [(2) ]() 2. Verify the number appears correctly in your phone number list and shows the bound agent 3. Check if calls appear in your call history - if they don't show up at all, there may be a configuration issue If Using Custom Telephony/SIP Trunking If you imported this number via SIP trunking rather than purchasing directly from Retell, double-check your origination settings in your SIP trunk provider and ensure the configuration is correct [(3) ]() . The FAQ notes that Retell cannot validate if the setup works until a call is actually made . If none of these resolve the issue, I recommend checking the call logs in your Retell dashboard for specific error codes or reaching out to Retell support with the phone number details for further investigation.

I've checked these "Check your Retell dashboard to confirm the inbound agent hasn't been automatically disabled or reset to "None" (2) Verify the number appears correctly in your phone number list and shows the bound agent" these are alright can you please tell me what type of thing can be wrong in the configuration, I bought this number from Retell directly

Thanks for the follow-up, @Tahmid Emam. I'll get back to you soon.
### Answer Since you've confirmed the agent binding is correct and you purchased the number directly from Retell (not imported via SIP) , here are the specific configuration issues to check: Geographic Restrictions Configuration Your number may have
allowed_inbound_country_list
configured to exclude US callers [(1) ]() [(2) ]() . When this list is set but doesn't include "US", calls from the United States will be automatically rejected [(1) ]() . To check this via API:
Copy code
javascript
import Retell from 'retell-sdk';
const client = new Retell({
 apiKey: 'YOUR_RETELL_API_KEY',
}) ;
const phoneNumberResponse = await client.phoneNumber.retrieve('+14157774444') ;
console.log(phoneNumberResponse.inbound_agent_id) ;
[(2) ]() Look specifically at the
allowed_inbound_country_list
field in the response . If it's set to a list that doesn't include "US", that's your issue [(1) ]() . How to Fix It You can update the allowed countries via the dashboard or API. To allow US calls, ensure "US" is in the
allowed_inbound_country_list
[(1) ]() [(3) ]() . To remove all restrictions and allow calls from any country, set this field to
null
[(1) ]() . Other Configuration Checks Since you mentioned the agent binding is correct, also verify: 1. The
inbound_agents
array (if using A/B testing) has agents with weights that sum to 1 [(2) ]() [(4) ]() 2. No
inbound_webhook_url
is configured that might be rejecting calls The "restriction" error message strongly suggests the
allowed_inbound_country_list
is the culprit since you're receiving calls from the US [(1) ]() .
