### Answer
For warm transfers in Retell AI, you can control the ring duration using the
Agent Detection Timeout setting. [(1) ](
) [(2) ](
)
This setting determines the maximum amount of time the AI agent will wait to determine whether the transfer target is a human. The caller is connected only if human detection succeeds within this timeframe. Otherwise, the transfer is marked as failed. The default timeout is 30 seconds.
To limit the ring duration to only a few rings, you should
reduce the Agent Detection Timeout value to a shorter duration (for example, 10-15 seconds for approximately 2-3 rings) .
You can configure this in your warm transfer settings:
For Conversation Flow:
- Navigate to your Call Transfer Node
- Under warm transfer settings, adjust the
Agent detection timeout field to your desired duration [(1) ](
)
For Single/Multi Prompt:
- In your transfer call function configuration
- Set the
Agent Detection Timeout to a lower value (e.g., 10-12 seconds) [(2) ](
)
Based on community reports, a timeout of around 10-12 seconds typically results in approximately 2 rings before the transfer times out. [(3) ](
