12/29/2025, 1:39 AMnormalize_for_speech setting on your voice agent. [(1) ]()
When set to true, this will normalize text (numbers, currency, dates, etc.) to their spoken form for more consistent speech synthesis.
Example from the documentation:
> It will convert "Call my number 2137112342 on Jul 5th, 2024 for the $24.12 payment" to "Call my number two one three seven one one two three four two on july fifth, twenty twenty four for the twenty four dollars twelve cents payment" before starting audio generation.
You can set this when creating or updating your agent:
javascript
normalize_for_speech: true
Additionally, for domain-specific terms like "sqft" or brand names, you can use:
1. boosted_keywords – Bias the transcriber to recognize specific terms more accurately
javascript
boosted_keywords: ["sqft", "retell", "kroger"]
2. pronunciation_dictionary – Define exact pronunciations using IPA phonemes (currently supported for English & 11labs voices)
javascript
pronunciation_dictionary: [
{
"word": "actually",
"alphabet": "ipa",
"phoneme": "ˈæktʃuəli"
}
