Hello everyone! Sharing a resolved issue that might help others with inbound webhook variable handling.
I wanted to post an update because this problem was very confusing and didn’t behave the way I expected.
At first, it looked like my inbound webhooks were not working at all. Calls were coming in, but it seemed like the workflow was completely ignoring the webhook data. I kept getting sent back to steps I had already done, which made it feel like I was missing something basic.
What was actually happening was more subtle:
The webhook was firing correctly
Retell was receiving the data
But the workflow wasn’t reacting to that data the way I expected
Because of that, it appeared like the webhook wasn’t being used, even though it was.
The breakthrough was realizing that the workflow could detect that the data existed, but it couldn’t reliably compare the value of that data. Once we adjusted the logic to account for that behavior, everything started working as expected.
Huge thanks to
@Flashtum for spending a couple days helping me troubleshoot this step by step. As a solopreneur, having someone willing to actually dig in and explain what’s going on makes a massive difference.
Posting this in case it saves someone else the same confusion.
