Has anyone here tried replacing their laptop's thermal paste?
I am worried about toasting my laptop if something goes wrong. Also please recommend a good thermal paste.

Which laptop is it?
Might be a good idea to clear dust from vents before changing thermal paste.

I haven't done it, but I regularly open up my laptop and remove dust. Was thinking of applying new thermal paste soon.
Videos online look quite straightforward.

I use Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound on all my machines. Very good quality and very good thermal dissipation. That tube is enough for 8-10 uses.
There are lots of tutorials on the best way to apply thermal paste on youtube. Just make sure you end up with a thin layer aross your entire CPU/GPU surface under the heat sink.
I typically replace paste every 3-4 years.

CPU touches 80-90C easily. This is under normal load
