Hi 👋, did anyone order books from amazon.com in the recent times? I wanted to know the actual duty levied on the shipment. I tried getting information from here but wasn't much conclusive.

I haven;t ordered books directly from Amazon.com howver just checked the import fees for a couple of books and it looks like is a 100%. I order other things from amazon and other US based sites and even there the customs is in the order of 30-100%

Amazon is indeed quoting around 100%. However Indian customs calculator calculates it to be around 20%-25% including all charges. I wanted to know if anyone got a refund from Amazon as they say.

I think the Indians customs calculator might be a little misleading. The 28% that it shows is one of the duties that you have to pay. There are other taxes that have to be paid. Here is a screenshot of what I paid to DHL for one of the packages that I directly received whose original value was Rs1.4k including the shipping along with the customs breakdown for the same
The same might apply to the amazon shipments too. The customs does add the cost of sipping in the value. Then adds two more taxes of 10% each. That 28% can also change depending on the category. Plus usually the shipper adds a nice fee for their headache, which is atleast Rs 500, which increases the customs for low value items
I have received a few items from amazon and have been amazed at how good and streamlined it is (though expensive). The only way I have figured out to reduce customs is to increase the overall value of things you are getting. I had once ordered something worth ~USD1k and had to pay ~300-400USD on it for customs.
as for getting a refund, I think you could ask amazon for a breakup of the fees or for the detailed customs breakdown when you receive it, however I am not sure if they will be able to get it for you
