I personally never buy a first generation product. Look at huge margin of improvement between first gen Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Fold 2. First gen is usually like a public beta test.

You may want to try installing a linux distribution? I have read lots of twitter threads about people replacing MacOS with linux to regain performance. Check out PopOS

Design work : brilliant. I mainly use figma and sometimes blender to do 3d stuff for fun. Blender is still running on rosetta btw, so I'm betting the native version will be even better. I bought it for the insane battery life. I get around 15-18 hours easily running safari/chrome with my usual suite of apps. The only limitation is that you can't configure it above 16Gb RAM.
