I learned a really useful life skill in December - touch typing. I think all of us here can benefit from it. There's just a few resources I used to do so - typingclub.com for the actual touch typing training and keybr.com along with 10fastfingers.com to train on random words. (No need to pay for anything you can ignore the subscription prompts on typingclub) Went from ~50wpm looking at the keyboard most of the time to about ~95wpm and not looking at the keyboard at all. Took me about 3 weeks to fully build new muscle memory with an hour of practise each day. I highly recommend it.

How old is too old for touch typing? Asking for a friend.

What does your friend mean?

Can someone who hasn't been touch-typing for 20+ years master it now?

Yep, easily. It's just a matter of building new muscle memory. I was doing 16wpm when I started but the speed rapidly increased within weeks.

Nice. Are these stats generated by the site?

Yep! both typingclub and keybr will generate these stats as you keep training. It's a nice motivator.

Does faster wpm typing help in programming?
I feel it might coorelate negatively

I guess If you are fluent in whatever stack you are working on, you can churn out code much faster as there's less thinking, researching and more writing involved.

I’ve bookmarked all these sites, currently at 60wpm. I need to up my typing (and reading) speeds 😄

I'm not a programmer but I write a lot (product management, documentation, taking live notes during research and also journaling). Also if you're a programmer a tool called espanso.org might be really useful for you.

I learned touch typing from
type.fu
chrome app reached to 70-90 from 20 what matters most is cautious practice (you can touch type using wrong shift keys 😄 so you have to be cautious which shift key you are using)

any programmer who mastered touch-typing? typing words is easy for me but it's quite difficult to train for the coding symbols, brackets etc.

@calm-gigabyte-36239 training for the special characters was the toughest, but it is doable. typing club has lessons for that too.

@kind-queen-6796 thanks for moral support. I tried many times but didn't stick to the schedule. how much did you practice everyday and how long did it take to touch typing code

About 2 hours/day for a week, then I just naturally started touch typing. It's only the muscle memory that needs to be built.
