Regarding the COVID Vaccine, once you get vaccinated (both doses), how long does the immunity last? I couldn't find a reliable source which gives some understanding around this. Multiple resources like this, and this states it can last from 6 months up until an year. However, as per the CDC website (here), it is mentioned that they have no idea regarding this. Are there any other resources/studies which can answer the same?

I guess we'd have to wait for another couple months before we have real world stats as most countries started vaccination around 2nd half of November.
g
Atleast the CDC website is quite frank on mentioning that they don't know yet, there's no point in speculating a time frame without having any proof.
q
Yup, the 6 months - 1 yr estimate is based on the vaccine developed by Pfizer. In the articles, if you see they have mentioned that the study was conducted by CDC on 4000 Healthline/frontline workers. I wonder if that is correct? If that would have been the case, CDC would have mentioned something about it. Since, vaccines from other manufacturers are now being used. I wonder how will these studies get conducted.

Covid vaccine might end up like the annual flu vaccine - being tweaked every year to improve efficacy and cover more variants. The studies will continue for the next 4-5 years as they find histories of people getting reinfected and correlate that with what vaccine they received, other illnesses, etc.
g
Pfizer CEO already announced a booster will be needed in a year.
q
Based on this, and seeing the mutations that the virus has gone under so fast in such a short span, it looks like it is going to be a never ending cycle. Will we need a booster dose every year?
f
Annual flu shots are quite common in the west anyway, and Novavax (with which SII partnered) is working on a combo vaccine thatโ€™s a regular flu-shot + Covid-19 vaccine.

Wow, I would really spend my 20s worried about Covid

@many-intern-37109 Yeah, don't believe the whatsapp forwards about "the next 15 days being crucial" ๐Ÿ˜‚ The next 2 years are crucial (time required to vaccinate everyone) and there might be outbreaks even after that due to variants.

The silver lining between this chaos is "getting vaccinated". Even if you get one dose, the chances of getting infected reduces to a good extend. In my circle, I have seen friends, and relatives who tested Covid +ve, but all of them have taken at least one dose. The symptoms that they had were nominal, and they recovered well within a few days without any complications.

Yeah, my soul just wants to go out and have some whisky and quiche for brunch lol
