My mentor taught me a very simple lesson - ONE THING AT A TIME. ANY TIME.

working with CPUs only re-affirms that thought. give a machine 128 cores, each core will and can process only 1 instruction per clock cycle.

Two things I've learnt from my limited time as a freelancer: 1: always go
    hourly rate
if: * It's a new/unfamiliar client. * the requirements are constantly changing. * You're being asked to work on an unfamiliar framework/language/tech-stack. Go
    fixed-price bid
model for everything else. 2: Make it painful for the client to change requirements. Have a SOW (statement of work) drafted before you begin the work. If they change requirements, then freeze work, get the SOW redrafted by them. Restart work only when this happens. They'll soon get the message about crafting requirements carefully.

the engineering team being very nonchalant and self-righteous is just very very unprofessional.
Are they engaging you as a subject matter expert? Or as staff augmentation resource? The behavior you described tends to happen in latter cases mostly. If you're a high-priced subject matter expert, people take you very seriously. If you're just another resource, billing at market rate, then well.... people take you for granted. PS: take all these anecdotes with a pinch of salt. FWIW: my theories have worked well for me. Your situation may be different and YMMV.

Hey folks - are you all in 1️⃣ perm roles, or 2️⃣ short term + contract? When I lived in the UK, I dealt with a lot of incoming LinkedIn messages and emails from offshore companies and individuals wishing to take up employment/contracts with the companies I worked with. Initial contact and the words you use are critical to getting past the gatekeepers, and an occasional misplaced word can kill your chances of getting past them. Would there be any interest in a cold message / application message Surgery Session next week? 👍 👎

So folks, this is something I’ve been thinking of and have also seen at play in a few places. I feel it would do a lot of help to everyone in the community- one day per week - throw in a paragraph detailing what you folks achieved - what was your progress - could be something as amazing as sending a rocket to space or as simple as managing to smoke one cigarette less. The intent is to feel good about yourselves and build a community ready to support each other! Since today is Saturday, I want to call this the superb Saturday thread. Thoughts?

So, I'm starting with the #supersaturday thread here. Please do share the good work you're doing / questions you'd like to ask someone / thoughts on your minds, any other brain dump you have. Only restriction - ONE message per person / no restriction on message length.

Hey guys! Thanks for attending the session today. I hope it was helpful and I apologize profusely for my crappy tech 😞 I should have listened to @calm-grass-85557 and stuck to zoom. (I used Meet basically because zoom has 40m cut off). But yeah. Lesson learned. I will try and share my deck here in a bit. Thanks again for attending. 👋

Morning all. I'm considering hiring an onsite team of ios/android/devops + designers in India (remote after y1). I'm struggling to find a guide on average salaries (glassdoor isn't accurate for the UK, so not sure if I should trust it for other territories). Does anyone happen to have a good jump off point please?
