Anyone know of alternatives to theremotelife.com? I will love to go somewhere and work for a month - of course after all this is over.

@refined-psychiatrist-35519 yes, many many more - just search for "workations", "Coworking retreats" , "Digital nomad retreats" - top ones are the remote year, hacker paradise, wifi tribe etc

@calm-grass-85557 I'm sure this has been discussed a bunch of times but I couldn't find anything - why isn't RI hosted on discordapp.com? Sounds like it doesn't have any of the drawbacks of slack.

It almost feels like racism when we see that a particular job listing is not applicable for only Indian candidates 😅

🤔 If someone wants to start learning a frontend framework today, which one should he/she choose? React or Vue?? Asking for a friend 🙂

Hey, a very similar questions to @calm-grass-85557’s last question but about the back-end. I’m not a full time developer but know enough PHP and MySQL to figure out basics (storing and retrieving data from a database, processing it before/after). I want to move to REST architecture (so that I can disconnect front-end and back-end, have mobile apps and make better use of some of the front-end tech mentioned in previous threads). What are your go-to options for building back-ends for your products? Context: I’m not looking for building a career as a backend engineer, but I do want to learn enough so that I can build better features and robust services for products I’m building on side.

I remember seeing a tool that automatically generates variants of design (color scheme, typography etc) but can't seem to recall its name and my google-fu is failing me. Does anyone know such a thing by any chance?

This is something I want to ask to everyone. When working from home these days, we are using some tool to connect with people in remote locations. These are the few I already know 1. Zoom 2. Google Hangouts 3. Skype Everytime we use each/one of them, we kind a like some special feature from it. I want to ask everyone of which tool they use and the feature which seperates them from the others making it certain for usage by many others.

Folks, need help.. Trying to pick up a laptop for my personal work like doing stuff on excel, making podcasts and media and regular media consumption.. Please share your suggestions. I'm stuck between the new MSI Alpha 14 Series with AMD Ryzen, Mac Air and Pro (Not sure what's the difference if I'm getting the 13 in model). Budget not an issue but wanna get something that's good value for money.

I barely know about non-Apple laptops, so can't comment on those, but if you get the latest Macbook Air with "magic keyboard" (as they call it) it's a good investment.

Yeah, folks who hated the butterfly mention that the magic keyboard is a lot better. Only the 2019 Air and MacBook are currently available.

How practical is it to run personal website on raspberrypi and expose it to internet via ngrok? ACT internet doesn't allow incoming traffic apparently, so just dynamic DNS won't be enough and secure tunnel is needed.

@careful-pencil-2826 @abundant-jackal-54634 I went with reverse SSH tunnel to a cloud VM and Caddy for reverse-proxy. Wrote about it here: https://gist.io/@nileshtrivedi/4c615e8d3c1bf053b0d31176b9e69e42 Will need to figure out TCP proxying (WIP in Caddy itself), IPv6 support, and auto-mapping of ports within a range.
