Hello, This question has been asked many times and I read the instructions and applied them to my new puppet server VM (in AWS EC2) but still see the same error. Any help is highly appreciated. I am setting up a new puppet master in AWS and I already have a puppet master configured on-premise. I created an SSL cert for the new AWS master node but when I test from the puppet agent getting the below error. The agent and puppet master on-premise connects and works fine without any issue. These are the details of each puppet master and puppet agent. AWS Puppet Master on RHEL8

puppet-agent-7.9.0-1.el8.x86_64 puppetserver-7.4.2-1.el8.noarch

On-premise Puppet Master on RHEL7

puppetserver-7.4.2-1.el7.noarch puppet-agent-7.9.0-1.el7.x86_64

On-premise Puppet Agent on RHEL7

puppet-agent-6.8.0-1.el7.x86_64

Hi everyone, is there a way to regenerate primary server certificate by openssl command? 1. self signed root CA and primary cert will expire, but for agent continue work smoothly, will not generate totally fresh cert by puppet itself 2. new root CA can be generated by https://forge.puppet.com/modules/puppetlabs/ca_extend/ and it worked 3. I’m using open source puppet v5.5, so cannot use PE command to generate primary server cert 4. tried to use openssl to sign new cert for primary server with its current key, but after replacing with new cert, run cmd #C0W298S9G ca list --all will return below error, seems new cert cannot be trusted Fatal error when running action ‘list’ Error: Failed connecting to <https///puppet ca/v1/certificate statuses/any key|https//puppet.xxxx.com9141/puppet-ca/v1/certificate_statuses/any_key> Root cause: SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=error: sslv3 alert certificate unknown

Have you attempted the steps from the open source documentation to regenerate the primary certificate? https://www.puppet.com/docs/puppet/7/ssl_regenerate_certificates.html#regenerate_agent_certs_and_add_dns_alt_names
