and I do arufe that if you pull in new major versions automatically, your CI config is the root cause :)

Maybe they’re not compatible.

<@U112RM52S> On initial testing, seems like puppet-lint 3.0.0 is incompatible with all my existing vox-populi recommended puppet-lint gems.

I uninstalled `puppet-lint-absolute_classname-check` and then it carped on `puppet-lint-anchor-check` … then `puppet-lint-classes_and_types_beginning_with_digits-check`

<@U112RM52S> I purged all my custom puppet-lint-… gems and puppet-lint 3.0.0 runs without issue.

So the problem is 3.0 incompatible plugins. Given that this is a major version, that’s _kind of_ to be expected.
Though, if this is an expected breaking change in the API, a note about that in the changelog would be good.

I don’t see any major breakage statements in the changelog. I generally skip any dot 0 release and wait for fallout. Lesson learned on lax pins on my CI/CD setup ( though nice canary setup )

if you want to have it running is daemon, yes

I've been doing this on all of my VMs, except one in particular is pitching a fit.
```sudo systemctl start puppet
sudo systemctl enable puppet```


whatever files or symlinks are being created under `/usr/lib/systemd/` (on centos, may be somewhere else on other distros) are created and managed by the `systemctl` command. if i remember correctly, it implements "masking" (i.e. making sure that a service _cannot_ be enabled) by creating a symlink to `/dev/null` ... it's safer and saner to use the `systemctl` command to manage those symlinks.

Trying to determine if there's an issue with my process or the system

I already attempted a apt-get remove and reinstall on this specific system

and check if you use the packagea from <http://apt.puppet.com|apt.puppet.com>

.... /dev/null, that's an interesting one
