    I think binary_file takes either module relative path or absolute.

    @josh what is the state of msgpack? wil that stay experimental?

    I am quite happy with it

    @nickgw I remember looking into that issue. IIRC the problem is the gce fact returns a hash, but facter's blocking mechanism doesn't allow one to partially block elements within the value. Just the path leading up to the value. I don't have an ETA though.

    not sure i completely understand blocking in that sense. i thought this was just a bug introduced in a rewrite because ssh-keys was originally presented as an array in facter

    @bastelfreak nothing has really changed with respect to msgpack.... At one point we were looking at enabling JrJackson in puppetserver to use Java's implementation of JSON serialization/deserialization. We ran into some subtle issues with MultiJson unfortunately, like https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PUP-11629

    @nickgw sorry I'm thinking of a different gce fact issue

    @josh anything missing in marking it as not experimental?

    @bastelfreak we don't run any tests with msgpack as far as I know, so I'd be reluctant to make that change. I'd also want to get some perf numbers comparing msgpack vs JrJackson/JSON in puppetserver before recommending one over the other.

    no worries, ssh-key's just constantly throws facter warnings for exceeding the fact length limit when its just a blob

    Someone left this comment that I don't really understand https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet/blob/832424710993567a0bdc942cddae9b32d66d7e4d/lib/puppet/provider/package/dnfmodule.rb#L16-L20

    If I'm understanding what you're saying, I think that's the mismatch. Puppet assumes
    ensure => latest
    means something very specific. The provider must be able to determine what the latest available version is and if the package is not insync? then the provider must have the "upgradeable" feature and be able to update to the latest

    heh, I actually drove into the office yesterday for reasons. I headed home at 15:30 for what's normally a 20 minute drive....... finally got home at 21:15 after abandoning the car, stopping at the Moon & Sixpence for a pint while waiting (lol) for traffic to clear, then giving up and hiking home.
