honestly the server shouldn't ever include content in a no content response
  • h
that's obviously the server doing something silly
  • g
Yes, yes, and yes. And now we find ourselves at the intersection of "should" and "done by Monday." Htmx should be "one of the good guys" that help you get shit done even if it's not entirely up to code.
  • h
    that's my feeling too
  • h
that even if it's wrong I'd rather someone get it working
  • g
Idiomatic htmx would probably use a meme. Is it possible to
    console.log
a microwave brain to the developers? Asking for a friend.
  • t
This is the kind of dangerous thinking that lead to things like
    Copy code
    <ul>
<li>one
<li>two
being "valid" html as far as browsers are concerned
  • g
    I hear you.
  • g
But is it valid HTML or simply HTML that renders a"correctly"?
  • g
the s are valid by the spec too
  • g
If HTML validators are still a thing, I bet they'd light up red at that 🙂
  • h
    worse-is-better
  • t
You know, I was 99% sure it wasn't, but then I went to look at the spec and it turns out even start tags are optional under certain circumstances
  • t
I fully regret having brought up the html spec and would like to forget that it exists. Thanks.
  • g
Not to extend the trauma, but didn't they fix things in HTML5? I always thought it became less insane somewhere between HTML 4.01 and XHTML and HTML5.
  • g
xhtml restricted the syntax, without much incentive to switch besides "i would like my syntax restricted"
  • g
html5 specified the algorithm to parse html, so the weird stuff would work the same across browsers
  • g
And bragging rights with that little "xhtml verified" button people put on the bottom of their blogs to show off... 🙂
  • g
    UTF-8 Verified
  • g
anyway. tag omission is good actually
  • g
i hate that most editors can't handle it
  • g
I do use an HTML minifier that completely butchers my output before it's sent to the browser. My beautiful, perfectly valid HTML goes in, and an ugly pile of crap comes out. So much worse than uglify JS. It's hideous and glorious.
  • g
template engines should have an option to indent partials according to where they're included
  • g
That would be nice, but why bake that into the template engine when it's easy to parse/reformat the output once it's done? Seems like that should just be a second processing step.
  • g
sometimes i want to format by hand, based on information that autoformatters don't have
  • m
    Bruh yeah

Q: is there a way to target multiple elements. I have a list of items and each items has a request access button. on click, a post is sent to the server and the related item is replaced. But I also want to show a notification bar returned from the server, either on success or on error
  • h
oob is probably your best best
  • h
    what's your backend
  • w
    adonisjs
