Right that's true. I would have had the same issue on a regular form.
  • g
clearly the solution is to push a web standard for submitting unnamed inputs in forms and replicate the resulting api in htmx 43.0.0
  • h
    loved mirage
  • b
But talk about SPA craziness - Ember models and routes. Then Mirage models and routes. Then API models and routes. Everything in triplicate!

At one point in life, it used to be offensive to laugh, type, or press enter. Now, everyone just wants to type without adding value. This is how to explain it to me like I was just born and don't know anything lol.
  • g
    wrong channel?
  • m
    htmxistentialism
  • h
    I liked ember models šŸ™‚
  • m
\> when gpt-3 shows up in the chat
  • b
Oh yeah, it was all good. But with my DERP stack (Django REST framework, ember, Postgres) I had ember models, mirage models (for testing), DRF serialisers, Django models. And they were all so, so similar. So tiring to get anything done.
  • h
    yeah
  • h
it was better imho than the same stack on react
  • h
which is what everyone is doing these days
  • b
Iā€™ve never done react, and never plan to. I think I was just lazy enough to ignore until something better came along. Iā€™ve heard ember described as the ā€œgame developersā€ of js frameworks. In that at some point another framework will come up with something radical and it turns out ember was doing it for ages. But it was the CLI that won me over. (And, as a vim user, tpopeā€™s projectionist plugin - game changer for dancing around the code)
  • b
But tbh, htmx and Django and the wonders of some classless css has made an app rewrite happen in next to no time. And all without the dread of having to get all the plumbing sorted first.
  • b
My next quest is to find a serverless stack that would work
  • j
the "serverless" world is on its way up the same framework-of-the-day curve JS suffer(ed/s), imo.
  • b
Iā€™m just cheap. I want something that scales to zero
  • j
i've had good experience with arc.codes on AWS, which let me avoid nearly all of cloudformation/SAM/CDK/Terraform/adinfinitumadnauseum and that stuff happily scales to nothing when unused. the framework named Serverless is just too big for my no-longer-plastic brain.
  • j
FWIW, i have since learned to avoid the cloudformation & co. stuff by using Pulumi.
  • m
is there heroku for aws yet
  • j
kinda? you can automatically deploy whatever you like via whatever you like to LightSail, and that's pretty cheap. and i believe, if you do the cloudformation thing, you can generate a button that works like the old "deploy to heroku" links did. deploying to netlify is also deploying to AWS and they have those buttons, too.
  • j
AWS also has AppRunner, which is the first sane way to deploy small to mid-sized web apps to AWS that they finally delivered, as a response to Azure's App Service (i spend all day in this world).
  • j
Pulumi + App Runner is what I use at work for anything we can't deliver over serverless.
  • m
    tell me about serverless
  • m
    i like servers
  • m
    why don't I want servers
  • j
"serverless" is a misnomer, of course. it is just an unfortunate term co-opted by marketing to paper over "containers + automation + cookiecutter backing services"
  • j
in my experience, all the Big Cloud stuff is just a way to eliminate undifferentiated functionality
  • f
hey folks, I am coming from Vue and svelte, and working with python and node backends, I would really like to find a course building an app with flask and htmx, I really like this concept, any links or resources to ease me into this?
