02/19/2022, 5:36 PMAh, it sounds like what you want to do is a 301 redirect (server side) and then maybe an
response header?HX-Retarget - m
mysterious-toddler-20573
02/19/2022, 5:36 PMThe 301 will be respected (htmx never even sees it, it just sees the final content) - u
user
02/19/2022, 5:37 PMUhhh - u

02/19/2022, 5:40 PMWhat am I supposed to set the HX-Retarget header to? - u
user
02/19/2022, 5:47 PMMy HX: - u
user
02/19/2022, 5:47 PMMy backend does this - m
mysterious-toddler-20573
02/19/2022, 5:48 PMhtmx will see the 301 redirect content, it never even knows the redirect happened. So, assuming you are sending back a full page, you can put
on the buttonhx-target='body' - m
mysterious-toddler-20573
02/19/2022, 5:49 PMno need to futz w/ headers in this case - u
user
02/19/2022, 5:49 PMyeah whatever response happens is a full either error page or redirect to x page - m
mysterious-toddler-20573
02/19/2022, 5:50 PMOK, only thing that might not work perfectly is updating the URL - u
user
02/19/2022, 5:50 PMmight be better to just use ajax requests or maybe abuse POST instead lol - m

02/19/2022, 5:54 PMtaking a bit of time to learn the htmx model will probably pay dividends in the long run. end of the day, there is no way around a lot of what it is doing: dealing w/ history, collecting parameters, etc. - u
user
02/19/2022, 5:55 PMI just feel like I have to have a lot smaller templates on backend and basically get rid of SSR for the entire page - m
mysterious-toddler-20573
02/19/2022, 5:55 PMOTOH, if you just issue a post and do it web1.0 style, that will always work - m
mysterious-toddler-20573
02/19/2022, 5:55 PMIt Depends (tm) https://htmx.org/examples/update-other-content/ - m
mysterious-toddler-20573
02/19/2022, 5:56 PMi typically try to keep from creating too many templates. Depending on your template language, you can demarcate subsections within a single template for rerendering, which is very htmx-friendly. I'm trying to reach out to template library authors to push this feature. thymeleaf, for example, has this, and people love it - m

02/19/2022, 5:58 PMOTOH, htmx isn't going to be for everyone, so you may want to check out something like hotwire or unpoly, which are more "batteries included" - m
mysterious-toddler-20573
02/19/2022, 5:59 PMhtmx intentionally stays low level and close to the HTML, which comes with pros and cons - u

02/19/2022, 8:21 PMHi All, I'm targeting a form ID with a htmx-get however given a certain response, is there a way to break out of that form and redirect to a different page? I tried to redirect from the backend but of cource it's refreshing the target id of htmx which is a form in the page.
