not too familiar w/ the tool, but looks promising
  • m
generally any UI tool that can understand ajax and/or waiting should work, so testing pure front end should be similar to plain MPAs
  • h
I was planning on using playwright, so integration testing layer

Does anyone have an idea of how I would show a loading icon while doing a page redirect?
  • g
I have the following: https://paste.ofcode.org/dGseuLS2UBsJUeFSqwFjSA, and it's not providing the intended effect
  • m
the id on your spinner should just be
    spinner
    not
    #spinner
  • g
Oops, yeah, that was from a recent change. It's also not producing the desired result with correct syntax.
  • g
Actually, it is. I'm an idiot. LOL
  • g
Through HTMX, is there a way I could replace div contents and also redirect? So I could remove the form, show the loading spinner, and redirect ?
  • n
I want to say you should be able to @User if, for example your backend is async,
  • g
I know I can do that through normal AJAX
  • g
    without an async backend
  • m
can you tell me what you mean by "redirect"?
  • m
like you want to redirect the whole browser page to a new URL?
  • g
    Right
  • g
Maybe HTMX is overkill for this then
  • m
There is an HX-Redirect response header: https://htmx.org/reference/#response_headers
  • m
but I don't see a huge advantage of updating the form if you are immediately going to redirect
  • m
so it might not be worth it to make the request ajax
  • m
    ymmv
  • g
    I've used AJAX previously
  • g
    just pure JS and AJAX
  • g
because I want a visual response when submitting a form
  • m
👍 well, you can use that response header if you like
  • g
    Yeah, HX-Redirect works
  • g
just tried it, but I still need to specify hx-target
  • g
it appears if hx-target is not set to body, it will inject the redirect into whatever element I have hx-redirect on
  • g
so if i wanted to redirect, and set the target to a button, swapping that out for a spinner, it wouldn't work
  • m
    The
    HX-Redirect
header should do a full page redirect, like setting `window.location.href`: https://github.com/bigskysoftware/htmx/blob/c2cb2381844a4c5f3c5677c7632edd9d3b420dfb/src/htmx.js#L2484

Doing a raw HTTP redirect on the ajax response is a different thing: that redirects the ajax request to a different URL for its return content.
