Yeah. I think consultant-scope-creep did DSLs in. But I agree. When they're done well, they're brilliant 🙂

if i'm still worrying about web tech in 10 years, something will have gone terribly wrong.

the language is colorful, but I appreciate the sentiment: https://twitter.com/tastapod/status/1475916087174836231

I have two feature requests and I'm curious if there's any interest in them - one is a attribute like push-url but ONLY for boosted links, and the other is an event like after settle for only boosted links
  • h
the push-url attribute usecase I think is pretty obvious - I want boosted links to change the url but anything that's in page hx-get style I want to leave the url untouched as default
  • h
the event for only boosted links is I'm messing with a library that provides debug information on page load and I want to be able to hook into it better
  • h
also what do you think about hx-merge, so that I can load content from the server and smash into what's already on the page
  • u
I had to change the structure of the JSON in my previous example, the following works now...
  • m
that's the way it should work:
    hx-boost
pushes the URL by default and
    hx-get
does not. If that's not working for you let's figure out why. For the latter, we can add a property to the details indicating if the current element was boosted or not, that's reasonable. Please log an issues.
  • h
    ah interesting
  • m
    that's kinda what the
    morphdom-swap
extension does, using the excellent morphdom library: https://htmx.org/extensions/morphdom-swap/
  • h
ok let me poke at that then - I ended up doing boost and push-url becuase I wasn't seeing my boosted links push the urls
  • h
but I thought that was expected
  • g
    please rigorously define "smash"
  • m
    Is there a
    hx-push-url='false'
on a parent element? If not, it sounds like there might be a bug, I can help you troubleshoot
  • h
    no there is a hx-push-url='true'
  • g
like a git merge? or applying a patch?
  • h
so it's expected that it would push the url, but I only wanted that to apply to boosted urls
  • h
and I've been turning it off for every hx-get
  • m
Ah, OK, yes, you shouldn't need that.
  • h
    ok cool
  • m
hx-boost should do that by default
  • m
morphdom does a very good job of merging DOM elements, definitely worth a try
  • h
that is the behavior I want, let me see about that
  • h
Smash: To vigorously mix the dom into a fine paste
  • m
I considered making it part of the standard htmx package, but the algorithm is large so I left it as an extension since the defaults are good enough for most folks
  • m
htmx is certainly capable of that!
  • g
morphdom converts the old dom to the new one with minimal modification
  • h
yeah there's only one case where I want to merge and it's very specific ( new flash messages from the server combining with prior ones that haven't been dismissed yet)
  • g
"merge" sounds more like you want to combine the elements in both the old and the new
