@User Thanks for your help earlier today with the loader button. I had to take a controlled rest so I'm just getting back to it now but that's a good example of a slight tweak I had to make to my frontend code to make it fit the htmx paradime

For my own backend, you just pass an extra param to output json instead. It's all the same data... and for the front-end I love using hypermedia responses.

Hi everyone. I found htmx on HN yesterday and have been playing around with it. One thing I found strange was that
    hx-target=".some-class"
only selects the first one. Let's say I wanted to update just a profile image everywhere on the page, how would I do that?
  • m
I think I accepted a pull request to fix that in dev, let me check
  • m
    :/
  • m
    Only for oob responses

the github ui bug is being solved before our eyes
  • m
did you think the github ui bugs were serious?
  • m
I found (i think they are fixed?) them annoying, but they always seemed trivial to fix
  • g
the proposition is that they require manual fixing with htmx, whereas reactive templates a la svelte make them go away completely.
  • g
though it's a bit more complicated since most spas sync data with a server in some way
  • g
also it mildly sucks making something global just so both the purchase button and the shopping cart indicator use it
  • g
if we have a way to say "update ALL elements that use this" in htmx, we're a lot less open to these bugs

erm... hi @User! 😁 👋 Welcome to the htmx discord, a magical place inhabited by friendly (if slightly off-beat) folks, who seemingly all specialise in MDD (meme-driven development).

i think a class on an oob response element is kinda that
  • c
what's the syntax like for that
  • m
    Copy code
    html
  <div hx-swap-oob="innerHTML:.foo">Foo was updated</div>
  • m
  • m
(sorry, been a while since I looked at it)

@User as for your question ... excellent find btw! @User this seems like it should be a thing... select all instances that matches a class name? I'm kinda surprised I haven't stumbled across it 🤔 Probably, because I hyperscripted my way out of it
  • m
it's a reasonable feature, we can implement it
  • m
    docs fixed
  • c
I found it confusing because of "CSS selector" and I thought, oh fun I can go nuts and do a giant CSS selector that looks like
    .foo, li > .baz, #foobar
    but not so
  • m
Yep, we should support multiple targets
  • m
for now you can use an oob response to the request and get kinda what you want
  • c
gonna try that out once I get dev to build on my machine 😛 some sort of node-gyp issue with M1 I think
