there is a client-side templating option, but generally I would recommend against it.
  • m
also, if you are already far down the JSON-server road, htmx might not be the best pivot, since it is a fairly different model. Much easier to come from an MPA.

for every "you are a moron and should delete your account immediately" comment, there are many silent nods in agreement

Hi @User and welcome! Just to agree with what @User said...if you're already heavily invested in serving up JSON from a backend... htmx might not be the best option. Yes, there are client-side templating plugins such as handlebars, but really these are meant to be used as the exception, not the rule

end of the day, 200+ upvotes on HN:

That said, if you can make the switch (both mentally and practically) to serving html partials from your backend, then htmx might just blow your socks off!

Ahh, okay. I think you just filled in a blind spot. I'm currently watching Carson's interview right now with PyCharm and midway through the examples are using hx-get=tab1.html......talk about serendipity

    Thanks, Deniz

This here is just about the friendliest place on the interwebs and you'll always get a helpful answer or opinion (you might have to stand the odd meme or 2 in between 😁 ) Please let us know your conclusions, either way!

Great welcome! I'm devouring tutorials and the docs atm. I'm in the middle of a hackathon right now, and I'm getting that itch to rip out everything and refactor with htmx.

    I'm pretty much sold....

the more "text and images" (@User ' s term) your app is, the better htmx will perform for you

I should make an animated GIF of me deleting all my Svelte courses....
  • g
    ??
  • g
    do NOT
  • m
    🙂
  • g
i mean, you can delete the courses, but no need to make a racket about it
  • u
    Right on.

was about to post this 10 minutes ago but thought it might be too spicey for the chat
  • u
    Can I NFT that?🤣
  • r
whatever you want man public domain
  • g
on another server: > Deniz Akşimşek — 11/16/2021 > i'm going to make an nft marketplace where the nfts are just text files with the owner's email, and they will be stored on a usb drive that you can view on a 24/7 livestream

    > Deniz Akşimşek — 11/16/2021 > every once in a while i'll show up on stream, plug the drive into my laptop and type up the latest purchases

    Now that's a money printer

but ya I remember watching Harris' vid like 2 months ago and losing a lot of hope in my colleagues in this industry
  • r
    this community gives me hope
  • r
i mean i get it, HN is extremely trendy, and Harris has to push his horse in the race, but do we really need to continue the nightmare.

The internet is a big place... there's more than enough room for different strategies 🤷‍♂️ Some people seem to like complexity ... errr more sophistication (e.g. my younger self) and that's fine.
