  • g
    LINKS
  • g
also i'm fighting with idiots on reddit and i really have to stop. people are s odumb.
  • m
🙂 I recommend you take a break, I have developed a very thick skin over the years, but it can still ruin my day
  • g
yeah for sure. i'm working on that in my life.
  • m
not easy! But you can do it!
  • m
  • g
i just saw your link to the anti-mimetic advice article
  • g
andi t's like this article was written directly for me
  • g
    so thanks for that haha
  • m
    🙂
  • m
it's a very good one, lots of practical advice!
  • m
being a contrarian can be exhausting if you take to too seriously
  • m
ask me how I know 🙂
  • g
i think a point that rich harris is missing is that simplicity leads to performance
  • g
the major performance problems the web is facing right now are due to the forced complexity of the javascript ecosystem
  • m
I don't think we'll be able to convince Mr. Harris of much, especially over twitter. But we can plant seeds.
  • m
And, who knows, maybe there is a underlying aspect of svelte that I am missing. I will need to read more about it.
  • g
I don't think there is. I think it's just Stockholm syndrome.

    🤔
  • r
    > the examples shown actively prevent progressive enhancement, which transitional app frameworks take seriously
  • r
Is he referring to not having JS?
  • m
    yes
  • m
    as well as accessibility issues
  • m
you can use htmx to progressively enhance a website, but it requires work (as it would in svelte or any other JS framework)
  • m
I don't view this as a unique problem w/ htmx, which can be used in a progressive enhancement manner fairly easily (since it is already so close to the original non-js model of the web)
  • m
but I also don't want to fight about it

I think his "deploy rails app on cloudflare workers" argument also doesn't really hold... unless Moore's Law, containerization and wasm are actually a myth... and I also don't have ubuntu, debian and kali installed on an android phone since 5 years ago... you could probably run a rails app off your espresso machine in 2021
