how are you planning on rendering websites without a data structure that represents a web page
  • m
    haskell has entered the chat
  • g
or do you mean "replace the dom with a better dom"
  • g
    idk what i mead
  • g
    mean
  • m
the DOM is the worst possible solution to our problems, except for all the others
  • g
The React guys would like a word with you…
  • g
was html even a good idea, in hindsight? i think it was, but we could have something better
  • g
id love html to have all the features of htmx
  • g
    built right in
  • g
virtual memory is faster than real memory
  • g
    ...
  • g
    wym virtual memory?
  • g
  • g
the os and hardware perform a dance to prevent you from accessing memory used by other processes, or the kernel
  • g
yep so like swap in linux
  • g
    that too
  • g
    how is that faster tho
  • g
    its larger sure
  • g
    but faster??
  • g
wouldnt be without a bunch of optimizations
  • g
it's a reference to some react people claiming vdom is faster than real dom
  • g
idk anything about react, skipeed the whole thing i think its dumb ngl
  • g
(because they were comparing it to storing app state as extra properties on dom elements, as opposed to being considerate) like
    Copy code
    $('#table').user = {
  name: username,
  ...
table: $('#table') // this circular reference messes with browser memory management
}
  • g
ofc it does thats a bad idea
  • g
for a while hyperscript did stuff with expando props
  • g
    it uses weakmaps now
  • g
circular reference is always a bad idea when you want simplicity and people to be able to change things
  • g
    whats weakmaps
  • g
it's not that hard to accidentally get circular references tho when using expandos
