Yep, as I have said many, many times: htmx is lower level than hotwire. It is a bottom-up improvement of HTML, rather than a top-down framework. Each approach has its pros and cons: htmx is going to make creating fine-grain HTTP interactions easier, but it will require more work out of the box in some cases. If you want a batteries-included, drop-in framework, hotwire will be better for you, and that's a perfectly reasonable approach to web development. I am not going to say anything bad about hotwire, it's a fine library. htmx is different technically and philosophically, however, and the differences, I have to say, are pretty obvious if you just spend a bit of time reading the documentation for each.

What I meant is that having for instance in your app a Turbo Frame defined with the

src

attribute won’t work either when JavaScript is disabled (i guess)

mmm, yes, interesting. that particular feature was a good example of something that htmx has offered since the start via the

hx-trigger='load'

pattern, and it definitely breaks progressive enhancement. (As an aside, intercooler.js has had this feature for a decade now: https://intercoolerjs.org/examples/lazyload.html)

Yes exactly. I just wanted to mitigate a little bit when people say that Hotwire/Turbo is full batteries-included and full progressive enhancement. That’s just not the case. There a multiple features in Turbo that need JavaScript to me.

How do i import htmx in a typescript project

import htmx from 'htmx.org'

In case anybody else needs to do this....

const htmx = require('htmx.org')
window.htmx = htmx

Carson's speaker bio for the Jetbrains Javascript Day. Can I get a hell yeah?!

someone frame this

i'd not heard of hotwire

is that another htmx?

Turbo is part of hotwire

Hotwire is more for ror not Django right ?

Its "agnostic", since its a JS lib, but they got a Ruby gem that bundles it with your Rails app.

Ok I thought there was like a deep down integration with ror. Is there any table that compares the two ?

Not that I know of. As @User mentioned, the above discussions can help.

Ok thanks

Hi. For a new project I want to use htmx and hyper script But I’m quite new to these libraries and have two general questions: 1. When new content replaces old content -imagine a SPA- is there an easy way to update the title tag and other meta tags in the document head? 2. I have a form that first needs to be validated. Then it communicates with the server -through a fetch call, receiving a ‘true’ or ‘false’ response. If true the page is reloaded. If false an error message is shown. As a I understand it, htmx does a smooth replacement of html responses. But, would it work for this scenario?

Hi there! htmx will automatically subsitute

<title/>

tags that it sees in responses. Other meta tags are not handled however. Sorry about that.

If you have an end point that returns non-HTML content, you have a few options. Given what you already have, I would keep the request in

fetch

and then trigger an event that refreshes the form or page.

@mysterious-toddler-20573 , excellent!! Thank you for all this information. Super useful. Can’t wait to dive in htmx.

🙂 i hope you enjoy it

I think up to now I am the only one who tries to support new htmx users which ask a question on Stackoverflow. It would be very nice, if some more users could subscribe to the tag htmx, so that you receive an email if a new htmx question got asked: https://stackexchange.com/filters/409974/htmx Of course I will up-vote your answers 🙂

I tried to set up an alert, but I think I failed

😦

I didn’t know you could make alerts. I’ll subscribe as well. Thanks for holding the line, @salmon-xylophone-28580

Suppose I have a page in which upon POSTing to a resource, I need multiple (say 3) distinct elements on that page reflect that change; what would be the most appropriate way to do this with htmx?
