    I just wanted the menu to be a bit wider and taller to be more touch friendly

    so... the menubar, by default, takes the size of the buttons within it

    so if you set the menubar to a height of, say, 50px, then the buttons will be the same size, but aligned to the center... is that what you mean?

    if I just set the height to 50 they move downwards

    I'd like to have them "stretch" downwards

    yeah, so by default the menubar doesnt behave like that, the menubar will size according to the buttons, not the other way round... however, you can do it with css

    but maybe all of this could be circumvented/prevented by some other way of making the buttons all around larger
