UPDATE: I guess can run
git commit --amend
after
gt create
instead of split/modify Is there a way to have graphite ask for both commit message and description when creating commit+branch using
gt create
? Right now, I believe I'd need to run `gt split`/
gt modify
afterwards to open the editor and do it but would be nice if this was an option during
gt create
itself.

Hello Sangeeth, there are a few different options here. You can modify your
gt config
submit settings , or you can use the various flags like
--edit-description
to pass in the metadata as needed
s
Yeah I do that now with
gt submit
but what I want is to be able to do the same thing when doing
gt create
. Right now, the only option seems to be for the commit message (aka PR title).
Because I preferably like to make useful commits in most of my workflows now so they are ready to take in some description. If I wait till I have like 4-5 branches/commits in the stack and then submit, I have to add description for each of them during this phase. My ask is to allow us to shift this to the left so we can have it ready as soon as we do
gt create
. So that when I'm
gt submit
-ing, there is an option to use existing commit body as the PR description.
p
just wanted to circle back here. Seems like there is a
gt config
setting to set the description based on commit message! if you have multiple commits it combines them
s
I have this configured but this is not what I wanted. Since
gt create
is creating a commit, I wanted to be able to specify commit description during this creation itself. Right now, flow is you can edit the commit message/PR description when you do
gt submit
. Workaround I'm doing now is
gt create
following by an alias for
git commit --amend
to open the editor. Wish
gt create
had an option to do this.
