Is there a better way to do the
gt split
workflow? The way I have my editor set up (terminals spread horizontally on the lower 1/3 of my screen), my terminal don’t have a lot of real estate in VSCode and it’d be nice to be able to use a GUI or something. With that little space, it is hard to see all of the things without doing pane resizing

I usually just use
git
to split, and then use
gt split
and split via commit
r
what’s the git command(s) you use? I’ve only ever done the FB mercurial workflow or Graphite split workflow
a
Copy code
$ git reset --soft HEAD~<number of commits in gt branch>
// Repeat as needed
$ git add -p
$ git commit <commit 1>

(take it or leave it) i highly recommend biasing to a terminal on the right side of the screen, for way more vertical space. the default of slim bottom-fixed terminal in vscode generally makes you scroll back too much

yeah as I typed out my question, I increasingly felt like the

anti-hero▾

Gonna try the vertical iTerm on the side of the screen
d
oh gotcha, you're not using the in-vscode terminal?
r
No I am (screenshot of what I had coming)
this is what I was doing previously
d
you can move the vscode terminal to the right, you don't need iterm btw
they really hide the option though
if you right click this bar (to the left of these icons) there's an option to move the terminal -> right
r
you’re blowing my mind right now
d
haha yeah i don't know why • they hide this so deeply • the horizontal terminal is default esp given that culturally i notice in vscode people don't have a ton of vertical editor splits (ymmv), so the right side real estate is there
r
everyone I’ve looked over the shoulder at at my company doesn’t use the integrated terminal lol
d
gotcha, yeah not sure! i don't use vscode but am mildly aware of the config options
