Hi! Not sure I understand the ask here - could you provide more details?
k
My company is trying to sign up for graphite and the owner of the repository is having to manually approve each request that comes in. Is there a way to prevent that and grant permission to everyone?
We use the github App authentication. do you have any updates?
p
Hmm - if the app has been installed on and granted access to the relevant repositories in your organization this shouldn't be happening (unless people are requesting it for repositories which the App does not yet have access to). Looping @Jacob Gold into this convo
k
Yes, the app has been granted access to the correct repo. Members are having problems joining, I will reevaluate Monday if they’re using the correct permission setup, ie. app or oauth in their personal settings
p
Yes that would be super helpful! Authenticating with GitHub can be a bit of a beast and want to make sure your org is setup correctly :)) We're also planning on doing a re-haul of the existing onboarding process so this is a little more clear
j
If you are able to, screenshots would be very helpful here!

I'm looking from our end to verify that users in your org have the correct auth method selected

Onboarding was pretty difficult/confusing. I am not the rpo owner so I was attempting to walk our director through the process. Didn’t seem very clear.
It would be super cool if there was an option to have one repo with App permissions and other with OAuth
j
We're working on improving this currently — definitely aware it's rough

Hasn't gotten much love since we initially built it over a year ago when we were far less expert in GitHub's auth scheme.
Out of curiousity, what is the benefit of having multiple repos authenticated via different methods?
From our end, we recommend that all orgs use App if possible, as we only get webhooks if you use App
And so the dashboard is generally going to be far less up-to-date if you use OAuth app — we're working on adding more messaging to help people switch to App as well
k
We have one repo owner that is a client and is not as tech savvy but managed to click the appropriate email requests that approved the oauth
Could try and meet with them for approval for App, but would love more documentation for auth from inside graphite

This is coming up! In the mean time, this may help a bit!

Do you know the github logins of the users who are trying to get access?
k
user was using the github oauth as means of authentication, all good now except for the fact that we have one repo with github oauth and 2 using github app
j
I see, unfortunately we don't currently support using two authentication methods simultaneously — candidly, the complexity of managing multiple tokens per user at a time has never been worth building this feature given that we haven't seen many cases where it's necessary. Will it be possible to get app access on other repo enabled?
k
ill give it a try, would be better anyway. thank you for the help!
j
No problem!
