Possibly because of my request a while ago for the message to have a file name that maps to the git commit file type. https://graphite-community.slack.com/archives/C02DRNRA9RA/p1683676287959569

I’ve been seeing this since I started using Graphite actually! Just never had the gumption to comment upon it
v
Do you still see that behavior with 0.20.19 where the mentioned file-name change was changed again?
j
Yes! It doesn’t happen in normal commit messaging so it’s quite confusing
d
what graphite version are you on?
i don't think you upgraded
(i fixed this last friday)
you'll need to be on
Copy code
╰ gt --version

j
Oh interesting
Copy code

try
npm install -g @withgraphite/graphite-cli
j
Yeah just doing that now
d
also do
which gt
and make sure it's not in the homebrew path, in which case you have to manage your install via brew
j
That just occurred to me!
d
(depends how you originally installed it)
we could (should?) expose a command that just does this for you and figures out how you installed it though cc @Jacob Gold
gt upgrade
or something
j
Ah no it should all be through npm. This is strange.

A
gt upgrade
would be ideal
d
what is
which gt
oh i see it
j
Yeah. In a woefully old node version, but we’re working on that.
d
if you uninstall graphite can you confirm the binary goes away?
e.g.
gt
should be
command not found
j
I was being really dumb. I had it installed in a different node version
d
did you also install graphite in your local project's
package.json
?
i see
no problem!
j
Going to install it with brew to avoid this rubbish. Thank you David
d
multiple language versions IMO can really be rubbish.
every language is a slight headache it feels like
j
Strongly agree.
d
if you want to do any custom things when editing the file, you can target it with an
autocmd
in vim (example in PR)
but you probably just want to leave it alone & do default markdown editing

Nice! I’ll check that out. That seems great. Thanks a million for the rubber ducking!
Exactly, that’s all I want right now
