(related) What do people like these days for high yield savings accounts?

Capital one right now. 3.3%
And IBONDS
s
Not emotionally ready for the hassle of ibonds :)
Thoughts on cap one vs ally?

I like that I have a local capital one if I need to get a certified check out of that savings for a big purchase.
But in general, pick one a stick with it. I see people chasing interest rates and spending more money in the time by switching. If one bank is 3.5 and one is 3.3, it really doesn't matter if you have the 3.3 save yourself some time and find a good bank that traditionally has high rates and sticking with it. Like Capital One or that Goldman Sachs account that everyone talks about. I've had great experience so far with Capital One
There will always be a bank that has a higher interest rate than whatever you have lol. Try to find the banks not that have the highest interest rate at any time but rather one that consistently has one of the highest.

Right - so I'm happy banking with Citibank in general, but they don't have high interest savings, and I figure it might be nice to have one of those.
m
Yeah I meant for high interest savings.
Like I only have Capital One for my high interest savings accounts. I used Bank of America for checking. I basically use a different bank for each thing lol

I use ally and I'm fairly happy, although I've heard they have a 10 account max and that capital one doesn't seem to. So if that matters to you it's something to consider. I use TD as a bank to be able to deposit cash and then just transfer it over. If you live near a capital one location that could be a good reason to use them.

I use discover bank for checking and savings and couldn’t recommend them more. They don’t have a brick and mortar place but I very rarely need a real bank and barely ever use cash (max $400 withdrawal a day)
m
How much is discovers hysa?
t
Currently very close wth Cap One. Right now it's 3.3 too
s
Discover, Ally, Marcus(Goldman Sachs), and Capital One are all at 3.3
m
then they all sound good to me 🙂
if you are ever buying a home, having a local branch is very helpful bc of getting a certified check

Those are also the general recommendations of Reddit and this guy

Nice! @swift-vegetable-15776 do they always mirror each other? @mysterious-tomato-10057 ah I see, and time is usually of the essence?

i have found those 3 to always be roughly the same
s
@thousands-sunset-8939 they're always in the same neighborhood
t
Cool cool, like Baruch said they all sound good then 🙂
s
And they're always respectable amounts, never the absolute top but also never near the bottom

I'm looking into First Foundation Bank on @full-xylophone-58850's recommendation, he said they're usually near the top in rates as well and they're at 4 now
Btw Discover has a signup offer for $150 or $200 depending on how much you fund the account with

Good call, I’ve been a discover customer for such a long time I’m going to stick with them. They are always among the top like you said, plus IMO their Customer service is unheard of.

I use Ally bank for my main banking and savings, they are around 3.3% although it takes them some time to catch up with others. I like the fact that you can have multiple accounts like tzedakah. And they still have free checks.
w
I use Ally. Haven't had others to compare to (other than that I switched from Wells Fargo to Ally), but I've been happy with both the savings % and with customer service when I've needed it. I also had a no-penalty CD with them a couple of times.
n
Another vote for Ally. Been with them for a very long time and have nothing but positive things to say.

Plus there's always that secret hope that they'll choose you for one of their publicity stunt giveaway things.
