I, but not my spouse or children, am on an HSA-eligible HDHP. I want to max out my contributions before the end of the year. I have a few questions: My insurance card shows separate numbers for individual deductible and family deductible. Does that mean that I have a family plan and can contribute $8550 rather than $4300, even though the rest of my family are on other health plans? If my income does not cover the contribution limit, but we are married filing jointly, can we contribute (pre-tax) with my spouse's income?

Tonight's a good night to look at the reflect feature in ynab. I somehow spent a lot more many than I expected this year -- but not in debt BH. Also gave more tzedaka than I imagined.

I think refinancing for half a percent can make sense. There are options with very little cost. It's also possible to get a shorter term. So, one might be able to replace the remaining 22 years of a 30 year with a 20 year at a lower rate and save two years of the mortgage.

I disagree with the “unfortunately” in this statement by my tax return software

We checked, but unfortunately you don't qualify for the Earned Income Credit because:

For a working child... I tried looking through the threads couldn't find a clear answer... M1 for investing? Fidelity for Daf? Any recommended HYSA? Any recommendations for banking in Lakewood? Also do most people have a linked account with their parents or should it be solo? Thanks.

It definitely inspired me to set aside more intentional time to discuss money and shared goals with my wife. https://choosefi.com/podcast-episode/becoming-millionaires-how-to-talk-to-your-spouse-587

“It is better to increase the number of gifts that one gives on Purim to the poor rather than to increase the sumptuousness of one’s feast or the food portions that one sends to his friends.” — Mishnah Berurah 69413
Why the frum.finance Fund? • Proven Scale & Vetting: We prioritize and match funds across key cities to recipients who have been thoroughly vetted by our financial experts. • Data-Driven Tzedakah: We use detailed financial planning to ensure those in the greatest need receive help first, maximizing the impact of every dollar. • Beyond the Day: While funds are distributed on Purim, our relationship with recipients is year-round. We provide ongoing guidance so that, IY”H, today’s recipients can become tomorrow’s donors. • Anonymity & Dignity: We maintain strict confidentiality, strengthening our community ties while ensuring donor and recipient privacy. • Local Impact: Whenever possible, we prioritize matching donors with recipients in their own local area to support their own neighbors. Do people buy houses because it truly makes financial sense, or because they feel pressure to buy and manage to squeeze it into their budget? I have over $100k saved for a down payment and earn $140k, but I still don’t feel comfortable going above a $425k home without really stretching. That price point is hard to find in the greater Lakewood area. I also feel like I’m doing better financially than many people my age and stage (mid‑20s, with a husband in Kollel), yet everyone around me seems to be buying.

I'm trying to do a backdoor Roth IRA conversion but gpt is telling me I already messed up and I'm not sure how to best move forward. I contributed 7.5k to an existing tradition IRA I have, which had 40k already in it. Gpt is telling me I needed to contribute it to a new empty IRA account. What happens if I transfer the 7.5k to a Rorth IRA? Will I need to pay tax? On how much?

Is there a point in joining Retire ReadyNJ? Job will set you up with the default Roth contribution and investment options. 3% of your total pay (wages before taxes and other deductions) will be invested in a Capital Preservation Option to start, and after 30 days will be moved to a target date retirement fund based on the expected year of your retirement at age 65. Customize your savings choices and account. You have the power to change your contribution levels, investment options, and beneficiaries. Opt out. Not ready to save just yet? Participation in RetireReady NJ is completely voluntary, and you can opt out and back in at any time.
