It is very common, devs can not do PoW algs and miners properly usually , public software for Autolykos v1 was outpaced by private optimized software in weeks. One of reasons Rollerchains paper was not implemented in Ergo was uncertainty abt mem vs computations hardware optimizations, then Firo got into issues with somewhat similar Merkle Tree Proof algorithm (having very large block headers and shares to avoid optimizations).

I think even just having to download an installer makes it something that mega normies who want a usd wallet would not want to do App store and chrome store is likely the user experience somebody like that would want
